Lotus Emira V6 ECU Tune - Bench Flash

I believe they should have my cars ECU unlocked this week with tune installed and hopefully some dyno results
They did get my wheel spacers installed in my Highland bronze wheels are on the car too

Dyno scheduled for April 15th. I will be there personally with my friend and his car. I will keep all apprised. He is talking loco, saying he plans to exceed jubu’s dyno for the 600cs for only 5% the cost. 👀

What belt are you running with that pulley?
 
I’ll have to ask my friend what belt he uses. I know that the belts for 2.8 and 2.6 are not the same. My emira drivetrain is 100% stock
Interested in his results and any details. I'm running the 2.8 on stock belt, but could see going 2.6 at some point.

For most ppl, the stock belt will slip on 2.8”. Have you tested?

Haven't had much time with it. I recently had a misfire code and limp mode, but cleared and is fine now. Code came immediately after a wash, not driving.

Between the window leaks and other bizarre shit, these cars seem to hate getting washed 😂

Your response is a bit touchy. I was using an emoji showing I was sad that I was wrong. Hope you achieve your 600. What are you going to do with them.....may be racetrack where it would be useful.?
 
Back to my original question on how much can these cars take engine, transmission and clutch with added HP/TQ.

Do we have any Evora owners on this thread that can weight in on VF tuning or other bigger power increase without reinforcing internals on reliability long term either road and or track use?

There has to be the good the bad and the ugly that we should be shared with this similar platforms that we should be informed on. This is my first Lotus and being a smaller niche group it’s harder to extract this information consistently and depending who you talk to it can change.

Example I’ve seen it posted and is a common well know that if you want to go above 7200 rpm’s you should replace the valve springs. (I think 7200 rpm is just perfect btw for those that don’t have it) but my point is there is common “we knows” but the hp/tq I’ve yet get a common story.
 
550 ft lbs is apparently the limit on transmission
That’s plenty good tq figure.

If we find this 550 ft lbs to be valid we should start making a chart so when everyone is at the dyno they have a chart to go off of of how close they are to limits so they know the risks of they are on the edge or not.

There is a lot of really bad/wrong/misinformed "common knowledge" about this engine.

A lot of this information was gathered from Evoras, and lack of good tuners..
now when you take this same engine and research what is being done with it in 2GR swaps in MR2s, it's aw hole different world of "common knowledge"

for example:
Common knowledge in the MR2 world is 2GR has zero issues revving higher than 7200. I believe 7600+ is where they document the first valvetrain issues start to occur.(I can personally attest to this, as I absolutely trashed my Evora on tracks to 7500+ RPM for hours and hours and hours. Hitting the limiter 200+ times, even HOLDING it at the limiter through turns)

Common knowledge in the MR2 world is the bottom end has held upwards of 800HP before (not saying it's safe, but it's been done).
I believe Mr2 swap companies who turbocharge these engines don't even recommend building the bottom until you're at nearly 700bhp.


Then, we have "common knowledge" of this engine starting to fail at 460BHP.
Lets take a good hard look at this number.
Now, consider the fact LOTUS themselves has a 430BHP version of this engine they ship with a full warranty, do you genuinely believe LOTUS, the company that can't even afford to have cars fail, would leave a measly 30BHP safety window on their cars?
no way.


Most of this 2GR common knowledge is *old* knowledge that is no longer correct, but was the best information they could gather at the time.
 
Lotus could obviously crank up the hp for the engine (and probably have in the lab), but for them the number one concern is passing the requirements for emissions and mileage. The number two concern (which would be mine as well) is heat. The engine compartment already gets quite hot with the stock power. What's the heat going to be like with increasing the power output by 25% or more? Will the factory cooling be enough?

The manual trans is another issue for heat. I think increasing the engine power to 450 hp is probably within the margin of safety, but if pushing up to 500 or higher, I would seriously look at upgrading the cooling for both engine and trans.
