Hey folks.

We are looking now to grab a i4 Emira to do development on now that ECU tuning is possible (cloning/swap/unlock) looks like a few options will be possible.

We'd like to know how many people would be *legitimately* interested in a solution from us.
VF Tuner will take care of everything for you, including shipping your ECU out for unlocking if needed.
Two options are what would be provided
ECU cloning and swapping. You send us your ECU, we read the necessary information from it, clone it onto a tuneable ECU, return both to you.

Our guarantee :
We commit to purchasing our own i4 Development vehicle and continually pushing the platform.
With our own in house Dynapak we will test and develop the best possible calibration for this platform.

Updates will be provided to all initial interest customers free of charge.
This will include an option for a VF Tuner flash device where you can flash maps / tunes via the OBDII port (after we finish all testing on our own emira).

We have already ordered an ECU, and will have it sent out for unlocking soon.
Now we are searching for an i4 Emira of our own to to development work on.
You can Pre-order HERE:

What we provide:
1. ECU Cloning services. We will clone your ECUs information to the new ECU
2. The Tune-able ECU will be unlocked and prepped for tuning.
3. Your original ECU will be untouched, unmodified.
4. Both ECUs will be returned to you, and you install the ready to tune ECU in your vehicle.
5. You will also receive a VF Tuner Wiflash device and software license.
6. you can flash maps to your vehicle over the OBDII port from home.
7. Option to upgrade to our Pro Suite (self tuning / map / table access / dyno tuning capability)

We provide this as a money back guarantee if:
1. The solution does not work for your Emira
2. There are no gains. (least of my concern .... lol)

note: used ECUs are not unlimited. Currently this is for USDM vehicles. (if you have a vehicle in a different market we will need to first confirm your vehicles exact options)

How it works:

You order a package from us.
We secure a ECU for you and prepare the process of unlocking it for tuning.
Once the ECU is unlocked and ready, we request you to ship your original ECU to us.
We clone your ECUs data onto the new ECU.
We ship both of the ECUs back + our VF Hardware.
You are ready to tune.

Yes, interested [ You send us your ECU, we read the necessary information from it, clone it onto a tuneable ECU, return both to you.]

I am in the V6 camp so not eligible for this product, but just thought a little more structure to the poll could help. Hope you folks get great results!
  • [option A] ECU cloning and swapping. You send us your ECU, we read the necessary information from it, clone it onto a tuneable ECU, return both to you.
  • [option B] ECU unlocking and tuning (original ECU). You send us your ECU, we send it out for unlocking, we tune it, and return it.

We have purchased a ECU, we will begin the unlocking process and building out our OBD - Flashing solution.

As of now, to ensure we can support everyone equally, and continue to provide updates remotely, I think it is best that Option A will be the only option available *as of right now.*

We have a good idea already of how it works. (not really that much different than other MERC ecus we already do).

So, we will open up for people interested in purchase, with a money back guarantee. The link will be available shortly.

What option A gets you:
1. ECU Cloning services. We will clone your ECUs information to the new ECU

5. You will also receive a VF Tuner Wiflash device and software license.
6. you can flash maps to your vehicle over the OBDII port.

est pricing (due to ECU, unlocking, etc) is going to be around $1900.

Does item 6 mean we can basically add a 'base' tune ourselves??
I'm 100% in for having a tuneable ECU (ideally tuned already with a base map, so I'm ready to go without having to find a tuner here in Australia).

item 6 will allow you to flash maps over OBDII. (our premade tunes)
In time, we will add Support into our full tuning suite, and you can tune them yourself with access to the tables.

Good write up - Perfect. Under the warranty period, I will swap back to original ECU when visiting the dealer

For my own basic understanding, the original ECU is needed in-order to capture the coding to all the submoduels, like TCU and adaptations. Assume this means that your able to query that information from the ECU and then encode on the new 'VFTuner' ECU.

For dealer ECU software revs, do you offer another 'service' to gather up dealer updates(if you have a source) then update ECU directly via your interface Wiflash device?
Not sure how often Lotus will update the actual ECU vs the control modules.... just want to get an idea what to do in the future,
Assume you have to deal with this issue on all your support vehicles.

The original ECU is needed so that all the required vehicle specific information (VIN, immo codes, chassis data, etc) is swapped over to the clone ECU.

Currently we do not have any source for obtaining dealer updates.

You are to be commended on the commitment to tuning Emira

My feeling is the clone approach (Chinese method) is preferable to physically opening the i4 ECU (can now be done by bFlash in Europe). Older MRG1 MB ECUs are available. The issue (in Europe) at least is the cloning. BFlash say they can’t do it. I’ve approached various people but no one sure it will work until they’ve tried it. Some think it may be necessary to open to ECU to clone which largely defeats the purpose of preserving the virgin original ECU….
