Congrats, this is clearly the way to go and I will come knocking when my warranty is out. Having to have to buy an Emira V6 must be a chore :)

After a few solid reviews on the process and tune. I’m in. Currently, my JB4 is working, however we all know how limited that can be.

Do you have dyno results yet??? Very exciting!
As soon as my buddy has his molex fixed, and receives his ecu back with the obd2 flash kid from VF, there will be dyno

🥳 It's party time

what if someone only wants snap crackle pop and flames??

Exactly

Folks,

I think I found a way to get European and British ECUs to VF and back without paying customs or tariffs on the ECU value on either side 💸

I still need to confirm everything with my accountant and calculate the whole thing.
It does require a lot of paperwork, and I will need to set some things up on the US 🦅 side

How it could work
  • You create your VF order as usual
  • You create a shipping order with me
  • You get a shipping label from me
  • I provide export documentation if you ship from GB
  • You ship the ECU to Germany
  • I forward it to VF using temporary-entry declarations, bond provided by me
  • (No duties or tariffs on ECU value)
  • VF completes the unlocking work
  • ECU is returned to me
  • I handle the re-import
  • (Again no duties or tariffs on ECU value)
  • ECU is shipped back to you
  • You pay applicable VAT only on VF’s order value via reverse charge for GB (paid upon delivery via post service) or VAT invoice as usual for EU
  • You receive & install the ECU and go REEEEEEEEEE.... REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE (cont.)
You, VF, Me

Of course I cannot do this for free, but it will cost far less than paying customs duties and tariffs on the full ECU value twice.

The biggest upside is that VF can serve the entire overseas market with the customs problem removed.
More overseas orders for VF means more revenue going back into research and maps = everyone wins

Let me know what you think!

(think about all the carbon fiber you could get with your savings)
(Well probably a doorhandles worth but still!)

It’s a way around some of the issues and well done for working all this out. There’s still a fundamental issue for me as my car is my daily. Therefore, I can’t be without my ECU for a couple of months. That and the fact of it getting lost/damaged etc. in the transit.

Carbon fiber lovehandles?

The bigger issue is with that many players, something will absolutely go wrong at some point. And when it does, it turns into the inevitable "I did my part, it got lost somewhere else..."

BTW, this isn't a knock on any of the players involved. This is just common sense when you consider intra-country shipping via multiple players. Just something to consider...

What is the approx cost savings?

Good Morning!

So, a few things to announce.
1. We are pre-purchasing a few ECUs for extra development, and to test something. While it is *not tested yet* (so do no take this as a "promise") but we may be able to pair ECUs to your car here in our shop. Testing will happen first. (waiting on some from Lotus)
2. We have pretty much everything ready, our equipment, custom code, etc. Now just waiting on a few ECUs from lotus to wrap stuff up.

While I do not know if this "loophole" is still possible, we have had customers from overseas send us ECUs without duty if it is "FOR REPAIR / REPAIR SERVICES"
I prefer *not* to have any middle man between sending us ECUs. That just sounds like a big headache.

There will be 2 ECU tune options so consider carefully
1. VF tuners fully integrated custom code + OBD Flash and VF-Bootloader.
Pros:
- OBD Flashing
- Fully unlocked
- Capable of tuning everything as we release, and as our software releases to shops
- Fast flashing, quick tuning / dyno tuning

Cons:
- Lotus Dealerships will not be able to update the ECU if an update comes out

2. ECU Unlock + Bench tuning capability
Pros:
- Can be tuned
- Fast flashing
- Lotus can install updates to the ECU (****this may "relock it" if that happens. this is To be determined...)
Cons:
-ECU must be removed or you must make a custom CAN patch harness so you can access the CAN lines
- No OBD Flashing
- Limited future custom code support.

Thank you. We are excited! I've spent the last few weeks, dissecting all the code, getting around several layers of security, and we are damn near ready to rock!

- Unlocked, and capable of tuning (via bench/ direct to ECU)

2.0L Emira unlocking is in process :D :D :D
