Lotus Emira V6 ECU Tune - Bench Flash

Wishing your family well and Thank you for all your expertise. I can understand now why you got into some rants with some members, but it is always best to remain professional. You got this!!!
By the way, am I the only one who wakes up in the middle of the night to see what's new and post? I hope I can fall back to sleep after this great news...
I'm tracking Sunday at New Jersey motorsports with Porsche club of America on Thunderbolt to get a base line track times before I get more power for next year and kick some Porsche asssss!!!

Sorry thought this was a DM directed at me lolz

But I too am excited.. up late

Just curious.. Why would everyone NOT just choose the 7400 redline? Why go 7200? I also saw someone say they might want 7000 redline..

Why not go to the highest possible one?

Please don't flame me. :)

I was the one that said 7000 but now I’m thinking 7200. As far as why not the highest.. just precautionary. More probability of something failing or decreasing lifespan. Anything above 7400, you'll want higher rated valve springs.

A lot of ppl feel there is valve float risk above 7200-7300. Floating valve can inappropriately touch piston

lol at the phrasing. So dirty!

But realistically 7200 is probably fine. If someone can find the part numbers comparing the evora gt vs emira valve springs and we can reference the open/closed seat pressure then we’d be able to make a very educated guess about the real mechanical rev limit.

They are same springs. The whole assembly is same other than ecu.

7200 rpms seems to be established as safe

There is a thread in here by @mikemc which lays out exactly what is required to explore the glorious upper octaves of the tach.

Basically, springs, rods & cams will unlock 8000-8200, but don’t expect stock fuel injectors to keep up. Pump might.

I’m doing my best to summarize, I am not the expert

If the other valve train components are the same then the mechanical rev limit before valve float happens will be the same. Its not like the Emira is running insane boost pressures that might necessitate lower rpm to prevent valve float or stiffer springs to prevent it.

Guys 7200 RPM is 120 rpm per second
7400 RPM is 123 RPM per second.

The difference is practically nothing. You can touch 7400 just bouncing on 7200 fuel cut sometimes...

<pedantic>
RPM is rotation per minute, so 7200 RPM is 120 RPS, or 120 Hz.
</pedantic>

And yes 7400 is 2.8% more than 7200 so very much in the noise.

VF Turner, what about _just_ an ECU upgrade on an otherwise bone-stack Emira? Is it worthwhile? (Unless I can find a trustworthy tuner/shop in North California, I'll not be replacing any [other] parts).

I see. 🧐 So just raise the peak rpm above stock, then raise it again at a sensible 2.8%. Then I suppose you could raise it again as long as it was only by 2.8%? And again? As long as the difference is practically nothing 😁

At some point the problems occur, even if the change to get there was .1%. And then you'll definitely be in the noise 😆

I only mention this in good spirits - and yes, everyone mods at their own risk.

I wouldn't offer 7400 RPM as an option if I didn't test the engine to much further extremes than 99% of Emira owners will ever do.

I just put my car to bed for the winter. When its time to take it out again, my warranty will be expired. That’s all I'm saying :D
Piggy was never a question for me, I've been waiting for a real solution for a looong time

Let me know if you want to establish an EU based outpost, I'm sure we can cook something up. Would make shipping and tariffs much simpler for us euro folks
