Just curious if you were to sorn car in first year having paid the £1945 road tax would you get prorata refund and would you pay it all back if you re taxed after the end of first year when the tax would normally drop to £545.just thinki of those re salty wet months 😁

So if you sold it after 6 months , what refund would you get ? and what would the new buyer pay?

You pay the £1945 upfront. Once its done its gone.

I bought a 6 month old M4 Comp and paid the regular yearly amount from day one. (Year 2 equivalent)
Thought that would be the case , so presume you'd get the remaining "normal " tax back less the "rip off" bit

Any VED refund in the first year is at the rate of the second year whether sold or SORN. So, you'd get pro-rata of £545 not £1945.

ETA Beat me to it!

Thanks for the info. less incentive to sorn it over winter then.

Yeah, the first-year VED isn't so much "road tax" as it is "wealthy polluting asshole tax" :)

Does all seam a bit academic though with all thats happening not that far away right now.

Don't even think about the 1st year tax. It's just the purchase price and rax is free!
