UK car tax

The UK car tax for the first year is just over £2k . If I SORN the car for three months over Xmas will I save 3/12ths of the cost , or does the first year excess get carried over . Just thinking the saving would pay for storage or am I getting this wrong. Unlikely the car will. Fit my garage hence the question

Basically you don’t get a refund of the unused Year 1 VED, you get back an amount based on the Year 2 rate.
