3g for £300!

So from my research it looks like the V6 has a Co2 emissions rate of 258g/km. That is only 3 g's over the 255 rate that pushes you into the top vehicle tax rate. So essentially those 3g are going to cost us all an extra £300 per year.
I know, if we can afford this car we can also afford to spend another £300.
But if we're in the top category, anyway surely we can have our 416hp engine? If we're cutting it down to meet regs, surely the 255 would be some sort of target?
It just seems odd to be so close to a target like that and not hit it.

That's partly why I don't think the drop in power and rpm has anything to do with emissions. Just an easy upgrade later on at no expense to Lotus

Nope. That’s not how ved works nowadays.

Only costs extra at new car purchase.

After that you’re into the fixed rate with the +£40k luxury tax surcharge.

Further research means I'm pretty confident to say the V6 will pay £2365 first year (ouch!) and then £520 years 2-6. Then £165 from year 7 onwards.

The £520 and £165 is the same for any car over £40k regardless of Co2 emissions

No, first year tax is on top of the list price and it’s also not included in what Lotus quote as On The Road (OTR) costs. You can include it in the amount you finance.

So mines heading for October and most probably sorn it , so I presume if it's sorn for 6 month , then IL pay half of the first year's tax ? 🤔🤔🤔

So I have looked into this but cant find s definitive answer. I thought I understood that the first year was unavoidable. Ie. Paid on drlivety and not possible to Sorn.
But I am definitely not certain on this.

You can’t avoid the Year 1 VED by SORNing the car.

If you SORN during the first year then the refund is per this (from DVLA website):

Refund for the first tax payment on the vehicle​

The amount you get back will be based on whichever is lower of:

• the first tax payment when you registered the vehicle
• the rate for the second tax payment onwards

So you’d get the pro-rated equivalent of the Year 2 VED refunded, which I think is £520 currently.

To get back to the original spirit of the thread (whining about being just over the arbitrary threshold), my current vehicle is 1 gram into the "oof" bracket purely because I have the estate/avant version... the saloon version is a whisker under the magic number and pays literally half the tax. :grumpycat:

Also I discovered any SORNED time is added to the 5 year uplift on VED, ie SORN for 6 months and the car will be 5 years and 6 months old before it drops to normal VED!!
