Owner of a Lotus Emira with the manual transmission. Has around 5000 miles now.
The picture below shows what i found under the shift boot a couple of nights ago.
My guess is that the end of that cable slowly unscrewed itself over time from normal operation.
It became disconnected while i was shifting into 2nd from 1st, or out of 2nd into 3rd, leaving me in 2nd gear.
I was able to park by the curb.
Using a guide on this forum for removing the top panel on the center console, i was able to then screw it back in to drive it to the dealer to have it looked at.
I know I'm missing at least a washer, judging from a floating console guide on the forum.
You may wish to visually inspect this same connection on your Emiras. Should take a couple of minutes, assuming you can't peek through the mesh.
