Shift Knob Replacement

Hey guys. I did get a knob from today garage. Dave does beautiful work. He did send me the version with the lockout collar. See above. Feels beautiful in the hand. Don’t love the feel of the metal and ik gokng to get it upholstered but also I sent him back my oem knob and he’s going to try to replicate the insert so it first without thr need for a collar and without a gap. He does think it’s possible though obviously will be slightly less in weight. Will keep you posted when the second knob arrives but I must say this is already a huge improvement over stock.

Sorry that Rodak Garage. @rodakgarage on Instagram. Dave has been great with communication and the work speaks for itself

Looks nice and also seems to be done with excellent craftsmanship. If they can't embed the collar in the knob itself, I'd prefer it be in the same cast aluminum color of the reverse lockout stem or alternatively in gloss black to match with the piano black trims. Question: does that external collar design add height vis-a-vis OEM?
If the Rodak can come up with an embedded collar that would be ideal. I like the matte finish, but also wondering how it would look in a gloss finish. Thanks

Yes the collar will add height to the knob which is why I’m waiting for a no collar design

Has anyone replaced the reverse lockout piece?

Actually it doesn’t add any height. Exactly the same as stock except for the slightly larger diameter of the sphere itself. I think the height feels fantastic in the hand. Apart from the metal of the lockout collar this has been a home run for me.

Not sure how that’s possible? Even if the ball was the same diameter as stock, the shift knob would have to be taller by the height of that external collar.

On the oem knob, the knob is able to screw down such that the lockout is “flush” with the bottom of the knob. Then you can pull the lockout up and into the knob itself.

On the external collar design, the lockout would be flush with the bottom of the collar, then you pull the lockout into the collar.

I did order the same knob as you. He said he could get the collar in the knob, so we will see!

I saw on his instagram that he finished a lotus knob, might have been yours? Any update

Sorry I didn't update here. The knob is fantastic. The feel, the weight, the quality is superb. I didn't love the metal collar so I sent him my OEM knob and mentioned it to a few people. Dave is finishing up three new knobs which will be just the wooden sphere now covering all of the lockout pieces. Excited to get the update over the next week or two.

I can't recommend him more strongly. The work is superb and looks great in the car.

All this talk about wood this wood that...

i have determined how to make this and it weighs more than the stock knob to boot!
prototype is being made.

do you want milled wood pattern or coin with pattern milled in?

I love the coin version!
What wood types? Walnut (satin finish or unfinished) by chance?

I'd like one right in the middle; 49 mm, Bolivian Rosewood, satin finish, silver button. I have your 51 mm aluminum one, and it's just a touch too big. 49 would be the sweet spot. You got a price and a pre-order link for these?

I don’t want to take anyone’s cash until I get my sample made to my specs first. I don’t like the vaporware approach.

Nice work. I have the Lotus version and really like it but would be interested in one of these if there are some customization options.
