Nitron R1 Coilovers - Constant Delays

Glad you went moton. Trouble free all the way!
Strange about Nitron. They were the go too shock for any lotus. Now they appear a bit problematic in function and delivery. Great shock if you can get them, or get them working properly.

We are also experiencing delays and have lost a couple of orders from clients sick of waiting. The Nitrons remain an excellent solution, at a great price, but be prepared to wait.

Supply from many Suppliers have slowed. We're feeling the pinch! Material costs continue to go up and these fluctuating tariffs have made it a real challenge!

It has been beyond frustrating for everyone involved.
We have quite a few open Nitron orders currently and Ive been hounding them about eta's as much as I can while still being nice.
Based on the latest list update yesterday a number of kits are finsihed, being finished or being dyno'd so thats a good sign.
There are still a couple we are waiting for an update from the UK on though, @papadop88 yours being one of them.
@NicolasB has been waiting the longest, sorry amigo!

Thanks Greg, but what does that mean? Seems like mine are still in the queue?

Welp, after a few months of getting the runaround from Nitron, I canceled my order today, after an update stating yet another delay. I'm no longer playing their game.

Ended up getting the Modals from @shinoo today and he'll be shipping them out tomorrow AM with a Saturday arrival (fingers crossed).

Shinoo walked me through the Modals, their quality, etc and answered all my questions so I'm excited to see what these things can do. I'll do a video on the install when I get to it.

Sorry, just couldn't do this waiting game with Nitron since mid-June.

That wasn’t my experience.
Just over $5k(aussie rupee) for one way modal 46mm shocks is slightly more than nitron 40 mm one ways. Can be upgraded to 3 way if you could be bothered with the set up dramas. Welcome to a drive of my car if you are in Sydney.

David, my Modal M1s will be arriving soon from Inokinetic. The spring rates are basically the same as Nitron's R1 fast roads spring rates. How are you liking the ride on your Modals? What ride height are you at currently? How about your soft/firm settings...at what numbers are you running them?

I'm excited to get them in. The pics of them look great.

8 front, 6 rear(12 is full hard). Can’t tell u the ride hight exactly. But it’s around 15mm(you have to convert that to imperial). Feels nice and firm(without bumping around). And going fast through a roundabout(straight through) bites very hard at the front with no sloppy lean in and out. The way it should have been from the factory. Lotus were hunting Porsche cayman/ boxer(718) buyers. So they probably required soft and sloppy to get them across.

Did you get them supplied and installed at SSC?

Sucks that Nitron dropped the ball so much! The Modals seem nice, but they leave me with questions: when you need to rebuild them on a couple years, who in the US can rebuild them? Or are you left taking them out and shipping them to Australia and waiting for their rebuild queue and quote?

Do these things really need to be rebuilt every couple of years?

You wait six months for something that has to go back every two years?

Ridiculous. Think I’ll just stick with the standard suspension

Been wondering this myself

Every 3 years or 30,000 miles for road use. Annual service for race use.

https://www.nitron.com/nitron-shock-servicing

They keep a full log book of every shock they make and every service.

Some other sports suspension manufacturers do similar. For example Ohlins are more frequent.

The simple answer is that all shocks have moving parts and are oil filled - this all degrades over time and use. But it is cheaper to build them without allowing them to be serviced.

The recommended rebuild times vary based on use but: oils degrade and seals degrade with use.

Different brands have different recommendations but the they more or less all have similar rebuild intervals based similar use for a damper with similar designs. The dampers that last longer have more robust seals or have more thermal capacity via a remote, but in these cases you're trading off increased hysteresis or cost respectively.

I asked these same questions, KitKat. Per Shinoo who's confirmed this with the Modal owners/engineers, the rebuild times will be very similar to Nitron, as they all use similar components. Let's be real, almost all manufacturers in many categories use the same components...the rest is marketing. Ask me how I know, because that is my profession. ;)

3 years is usual more so than mileage because everyone drives differently. I don't plan to track so I will get more out of them than lets say someone who occasionally tracks.

As for rebuilds, Modal set up shop in Texas for rebuilds so I can go through them direct or through Shinoo when the time comes.

Net net, no difference than Nitrons schedules.

GRP told me last week that lead time is 12+ weeks.

Yep, and expect more delays on top of that. It's ridiculous. I was at 74 WORKING days when I had enough and canceled because they updated me with an additional 30 days at the very least. You can do the math in terms of weeks.

Thank you. I received the same recommendations from Modal/Shinoo...see the document Shinoo sent me on these specific dampers. I plan on going a bit lower than the 638 and 640mm. I measured yesterday and I'm currently at 654mm front and 660mm rear. To get to the suggested height, it's a 15mm drop in front and 20mm drop in rear. I want to go 20mm in the front and 25mm in the rear, at least to start. We shall see.
