Hawk Pads are Best Upgrade Ever

I had the Hawks put on about 500 miles ago. 90% less brake dust! A small bit of squeal once in a while until the brakes get some heat in them.
As with any new pads, make sure you bed them.

Do you have their P/N for F&R as well as source for lowest price (shipped)?
I'm switching to Hawk ceramic for daily driving and Pagid RSL29 for track

brainf18 posted this awhile back........pick which pads fit your driving style....I just bought the low dust pads----the Z part number added to end.....fronts are hard to find.....got those off Ebay

I have always loved Hawk Brake pads. I've raced them, run them on my street cars and think they make an excellent product. The OEM Ferodo DS2500 pads leave A LOT to be desired. They are grabby, the dust they produce is ridiculous, and their operating temp range make them ill suited for HPDE / light Track duty.

The problem finding a good Hawk brake pad as a replacement is the Emira is too uncommon to be listed on many brake supplier websites. So I started researching and found that the Emira has AP Racing Calipers front and rear. The AP Racing part #'s for the calipers are: AP RACING CP7040D61 (Front)and AP RACING CP6600D55 (Rear). The corresponding Hawk brake pads for both the Lotus Emira / Evora GT Front and Rear HAWK brake pad part numbers are:

Front HB586( ).660
Rear HB585( ).660

Hawk makes a line of pads from street to track and everything in between. To find the pad right for your application, all you have to do is insert the letter to choose the pad compound. Once you’ve found the pads you want a google search of part numbers will find retailers. Not all compounds are available for both front and rear. With the Hawk part # a quick google search should list several suppliers. For example I put Performance Ceramics on my car. The Part numbers for f/r pads are HB586Z.660 / HB585Z.660

B = HPS 5.0 (Street for heavier cars, think mustang or camaro)
D = Motorsports (Light-to-medium weight vehicles in HPDE, Track Day events, or Time Trials)
F = High performance Street (Street)
G = DTC 60 (Autocross / Track)
N = HP+ (Street / Autocross and HPDE / Track)
Q = DTC 80 (Track ONLY – High Temps are required for Pads to work)
R = Street/Race pads (Discontinued Product)
U = DTC 70 (Track Only)
Z = Performance Ceramic (Low Dust for Street use)

I installed the Ceramics and bedded them in. They fit perfectly! Almost zero dust and the brake feel is positive and progressive. Much improved over the dusty Ferodos.

Agree with everything said about the Hawk Ceramics. I've had them on for 2500 miles or so. No noise at all. Much less dust. Not grabby like the OEM pads. Nice progressive pedal feel. Zero downside for street use. I don't track so this is the perfect pad for me...

I just ordered these from automotive stuff.com apparently in stock…I guess we’ll see

Been running my Hawk ceramics for about 1,000 miles now and love them- 90% less brake dust than the OEM. Worth it for less cleaning hassle alone. They also seem less grabby.

I have just noticed on two 2 hour backroads drives this weekend now that the weather is getting warm (low 80sF), that after 90 minutes or so they will start to squeal under light braking pressure. Enough so that it makes me want to come in to a stoplight hot and brake harder, which is not smart. So slow-roll squeal to a stoplight it is.

I find it a bit odd as I’m sure they are up to temp after 20 minutes or so but I don’t notice squealing until I come back to town from a run in the countryside. My best guess is the squeal is a combination of hot brakes + lower speeds in the city when I come back from the mountains, + lighter pressure on the brakes needed to slowly roll to a stoplight than needed for a mountain curve at speed.

I went with the EBC Reds, and the Brake dust is WAY less. There is a little noise during break-in, but it is completely silent now! I have run them pretty hard through a few canyons, and they perform great. That being the reason I went with the EBC's, I saw and read reports on the Hawks fading under repeated braking! So that and a LOT higher cost than the EBC's was enough for me to go with the EBC's form @GRP (Greg's Racing Parts)

Let us know if they are in stock…….
The rears are on backorder until August or so.
Dont let those random reseller websites fool you, they dont stock anything.

Stock or not in stock aside, which would you absolutely recommend if one is really looking for almost no brake dust...the EBC Reds or the Hawks?

I literally cannot stand the amount of brake dust on the wheels after just 10 miles. It's obnoxiously bad.

I have not run the hawk pads personally but have run the redstuff and can say they reduce the dust by about 70% over the stock pads. I dont know that it will get any better than those aside from switching to carbon ceramics.

I've had the EBC Redstuff on mine from when I had only 500miles on mine and I'd say it reduced brake dust beyond 70% plus, no braking squeals and stoping performance has been excellent. Will never go back to the OEM.

Cool. Can you also agree that I can do a pad slap, bed them, and not have to worry abut squealing, which is also something I cannot stand?

Hawk Ceramics are very low dust. I actually wash my car much less now because the wheels stay so clean. Sometimes I just wipe the wheels down with Adam’s Graphene CS3 when they look a little dirty.

Every once in a great while with just the right pedal pressure and rolling up to a light I might get a tiny squeel with them, nothing major at all though.
And it was not consistent at all, it took just the right conditions to make it happen.

How was fitment for the EBC reds? I recall reading somewhere on here, maybe it was @kitkat 's build thread that the pads were thicker requiring removal of backing plate. Whereas the Hawks fit more like OEM? Seeing if I should hold off and wait for restock on the Hawks or just go with the EBC reds.

Can't compare fitment, or anything else for that matter, to Hawks as I never experienced the later, but I installed the EBCs myself and they fit perfectly right out of the box w/o any modification. I can only guess that any difficulty in fitment has more to do with the caliper pistons not being fully retracted, and in that case, fitment becomes challenging regardless of pad brand.

EBC reds go straight in, no modification required

I have about 600 miles on my EBC Reds now, and they are 95% silent! As GRP mentioned, every now and again, if you have your windows open and the radio off, I can hear the slightest noise as I creep to a stop with super-light braking, as in the final few feet before a complete stop. The brake dust is night and day compared to OEM pads; it is easily a 70% reduction, as mentioned earlier. It was heavy for the first 100-200 miles as I broke them in, but not now!
