Emira JB4 Tuning Now Available for I4 & V6 Cars!

install the JB4 on the V6 Emira, pretty easy install. I would say it’s definitely recommended to get a mounting bracket which I’ve ordered versus letting it sit on top of the air box which doesn’t seem very secure and kind of just dangles, but even with zip ties it doesn’t feel like the ideal solution.

I was not able to get the OBD reader connected because the wire length wasn’t quite enough without going through a bunch of routing and I didn’t think it was necessary just yet to read that data but I’m looking forward to the updates that allow us to connect it in the back.

Impressions

**My car is stock other than the miltek exhaust and third cat delete.

I tested Map1 & Map2 in tour mode with exhaust at stock settings ( milltek off ) at first and then in sport mode. Impressions roughly the same in either.

- Map1 is noticeable and feels as if the car is more responsive power wise and the powerband is consistently strong. To confirm my switch back to map zero and could clearly feel the deficiency in the 3-4k range. Overall was very impressed with Map1 and if that was all that we got out of the tune, I would be very happy and say it was worthwhile. It very much feels like this is how the car should’ve come from the factory with just a nice consistent power delivery, and pull.

- Map2 was at first disappointing as it felt weaker than Map1 using my butt dyno. However, I was able to easily hit triple digit the speeds versus being in the 80s and 90s on map1. For me the car definitely felt like it was struggling a bit on this map and that I couldn’t quite Get everything it needed to run properly. It did fet better after a few runs so i suspect the ECU was also adjusting. Again, my car does not have an intake and I think this was part of the problem as it wasn’t getting enough airflow in to take advantage of this map. When I opened the exhaust fully on the milltek, it seemed to do better and felt a bit quicker. The additional torque in the lower RPMs was welcomed and on this map2 I did not feel like I had to run out first gear just to catch up to a minivan next to me. 🤣 it was very nice to change first gear up to mid range RPMs, and then quickly switch to second and feel a lot of movement which made city driving easier.

For now, I’m gonna leave it in map2
while I’m driving around town in tour mode because that allows me to have a lot more bottom end torque and push.

if I need to do some higher speed runs or canyon carving, I’d probably drop down to map1 until I get an intake. Map1 definitely seems like the nice happy medium if you are concerned about reliability or over pushing the car. I say this only as when I came back from my back to back runs testing the car, The engine bay was very very hot. Granted , I was red lining each gear and doing quite a few 5 to 100 mph tests.

I’ll be ordering an intake ASAP once I decide whether to get the Eventuri or the GRP one, and I see if that helps get the final full power of map2.

What octane fuel are you using on map1 and map2? I have an obundance of 93 here in NJ so I’ll be using map2 exclusively. Does your perception of a suboptimal performance on map2 relate to 93 octane or a mixture of 91 and 93?

I’ve got 93 octane here and that’s all that’s been in the car ever. Of course I won’t know if the issue really is the intake until I get an intake installed, but I don’t think the map2 is really bad. I just felt like something was feeling a little less responsive in the beginning and it may just be the ECU readjusting.

Either way, I’m sure the intake won’t hurt to give it some more airflow and help it breathe a bit better but it seems like Map1 was definitely getting the full benefit.

The only true test will be the dyno but im going to bite bullet and buy one more mod 😅

has anyone tried map3 on race gas?
I'm very curious about this too. But they never advertised the gains on it that I saw so I wasnt sure if it was a placeholder and not actually a developed tune. I have 100 Oct race gas available at a pump near me

You 100% should get a new air filter, the stock one is lacking, I run the blue filter from @GRP with 3rd cat delete and milltek and JB4 tune map2 overall it is amazing.
Do you think that would be enough versus just going ahead and getting like the GP intake for an extra? I guess 650 bucks?

I’ll have to do some research, but that sounds like a much more cost-effective option than doing a full intake install.

Any word on if a V6 Auto map will be released?
I offered my V6 auto up for testing to Burger but was told they are too busy to do it. I decided to just go ahead and order a JB4 anyway and will install it when I get it and report back on any issues I encounter.

With more and more JB4 installed, I have a feeling more cases of defective injectors are going to surface, at least for the Turbo.

That’s the spirit.

So you think with all the experience Burger has with tuning BMWs, Porsches and Audi’s, they they couldn’t figure out a tune on a simple engine such as the v6 Toyota? This isn’t the first Toyota they’ve worked on. Also, the turbo Emira is the same engine as the AMG45..and they’ve flogged that one already. I don’t thing we are going to see too much problems with this tune in our cars. By all means you’re welcome to sit on the sideline while others go forward and tune up their cars. Each to their own risk appetite I say.
Congrats to Burger for coming up with the JB4. Tough shit to lotus for robbing us HP that we paid for but didn’t get. Effing thieves. 🤬

This seems like a weird take, according to you, every car manufacturer are robbing us of HP we paid for because every car manufacturer will factor longevity into their products.

And what does defective OEM injectors have anything to do with jb4. All he is saying is that defects in the OEM injectors will be identified sooner rather than later with a jb4 because it is pushing the limits.

Probably. Are you watching on the sidelines?

With all this talk about maps and octane ratings it might be worth pointing out that US and UK/EU use different scales for octane ratings.

UK/EU 95 is about the same as US 91/93
UK/EU 98/99 is about the same as US 95

I think that is right - please feel free to correct me?

I will check if we can monitorize the injectors duty cycle percentage with the JB4.
We dont even know if they were pushing them at let say 75% oem and maybe let say 90%+ with the tune for example.
I dont even know the size or our injectors, how many cc they have ?

Chill out man, like I said many times before I like JB4 from my previous experience and I have ordered one myself. I am just pointing out there are defective injectors cases out there, from what we have known in China has more than 10 cases, so giving a heads up to other owners to keep an eye on it. I don't know what your problem is but just leave it at that....
