DIY: V6 Burger Motorsports JB4 Installation

But is that possible if the ECU needs to “learn” every mod for 50-100 miles before a true result can be seen?
Does anyone here have a copy of the “forbidden knowledge” @VF Tuner posted about this ecu Learning topic, JB4, oem v6 ecu that was later removed by mods?

I am a fan of open sharing of relevant information.

Not criticizing mods for doing their thing, understand why they did it, generally agree that it wasn’t best location for that post.

But the info in the post itself would be valuable to this community as we make important decisions about what (if any) risks to run with our expensive toys. 🙏🏼

If it was relocated and I haven’t found it, I’d appreciate if anyone could steer me properly!

No i don't believe VF re-posted his concerns about how JB4 works or does not work anywhere else. I agree I think it is fair discussion but not in the vendors thread about the product (if its not something the self volunteer or are just responding to inquires rather than stated presumptions or facts slung as accusations or claims towards it being somehow dangerous or a bad product)

I have tried searching for this, but does anyone have a picture of how to route the OBD2 cable through the firewall? Did you have to take apart the rear area in the cabin to route the cable?

@Eagle7 good read. Thank you.

Can I ask, did you keep the OBD connected? It seems that besides the data logging, it’s not providing much benefit? I only plan to use map2 and nothing above however I’m wondering if it’s worth my time routing the cable when I can simply run it out the window if I need to data log.

Yes, I've kept it connected. It does more than data log. It allows the JB4 to see all the live data that the ECU sees, and adjust accordingly. Honestly, the car idles and runs much smoother with the JB4 than the factory tune.

Seeing conflicting details on needing it connected 24:7. Are you EU based? I’ve just seen the standard cable isn’t long enough to reach RHD OBD port which is a shame, I also tried the grommet fit but it seems it’s blocked the other side… not sure if that’s an EU spec’d car issue or not. None the less I’ll ask the company but I just data logged then unplugged it. I read people are using it without the OBD plug in.

Extension cables are pretty cheap

You will need to have OBD connected if you want to see all the colorful dials working In the app. Oh, and use "Boost2" Instead of "Boost" for the V6 at least.

Boost2? I see only to load different maps on the app

That’s map1 boost 2. I’ll be running map 2
”Boost” and "Boost2" are names of variables monitored, shown, and stored in the JB4's memory. The default gauges are configured to show "Boost" at the top of the screen, but the Emira does not populate that variable and that gauge just sits there showing nothing. Variable "Boost2" has data in it, and configuring the gauges to show this will make it more enjoyable.

I used a piece of coaxial cable, taped the end of the JB4 cable to it, and pushed it through the grommet area. It does come out but way down below. Use one of these to fetch and pull it up until you can grab it with your hand. This tool is handy to have anyways, especially if you work on your own car.
