I am thinking of going Ohlins R&T. I love them on my Mini. Maybe TTX but don't love that your have to rebuild them so much more often.

Is rebuilding a real issue with these TTX dampers? I know that Öhlins reccomends it every once a while, but do these dampers differ in that regard to other performance dampers?

You will find most coil over companies have a rebuild price so if you have issues due to higher mileage for loads of track use they can be put back to original spec. Some brands need rebuilding more often than others and it’s hard to give a life span prediction just like the life of an engine.
A friend had Bilsteins on his M3 that leaked and needed rebuilding within 10k miles and I’ve heard of other owners having their coil overs for years without issue. Personally the VW Racing coil overs on my Scirocco R had poor condition threads after a couple of years due to road salt etc., where the KWs on my RS3 were in better condition after the same time period and usage.
I’m hoping the Nitrons don’t need to rebuilt after a couple of years because the labour alone to strip and rebuild is a lot.

I am still really impressed with the Nitron fast road coil overs and I am really fussy with my shocks as it can make or break the handling. With my last 3 cars I simply bought the most expensive ones available which usually results in getting top quality units. I decided to try Nitron through a combination of availability and feedback from an owner who races a Evora GT fitted with them.

I think previously my mistake is going with the top spec track shocks and although it gave improved fast road driving it often came at the cost of removing that feeling of knowing when you are going to lose traction. These fast road units seem a perfect step up from the previous Lotus sports option.

Hopefully I will soon be adding the GRP 10mm spacers, titanium motorsport fittings and Aerie lightweight wheels that are on the way currently. It will be good to see how the next step goes and especially as I have a set of Michelin Cup 2 Connect tyres on order.

Got a reply from nitron that the Emira i4 electron (edc version) in r1 and r3 version will be available soon and able to be preordered now. Sadly my car is still 4 months out.

Which OEM suspension did you have (Touring/Sport), and how is the ride and compliance now compared with the previous setup?

Yea I picked one up but currently not in the states so can’t even complete my break in. I did contact nitron again about ordering and what the status is. I am most likely going to pick up the R1s but not sure if I want to try the electron version.

Nitron elec-TRON R1 (ER1) and Nitron elec-TRON R3 (ER3) are now both available.

There are 6 settings programmed into the Nitron Damper Control Unit.
1-3 are in a fixed position with no active damping but perform like comfort, sport and sport plus.
4-6 are brought to life by the Nitron DCU allowing the dampers to adjust independently, changing and adjusting faster than the blink of an eye depending on driving input, Normal, Track and Race.

elec-TRON R1 (ER1)
Designed for fast road and track use. The damping adjustability is controlled completely electronicly on this model, no manual adjustment is used.
Price is approx $6,167 plus tax and shipping

elec-TRON R3 (ER3)
Our elec-TRON R3 is our flagship system. It has the external canisters which allow complete manual control of both HIGH AND LOW speed damping, a complete global damping change by the elec-TRON valve is achieved from a base point chosen by the driver, giving finite control and multiple setup opportunities.
Price is approx $8,695 plus tax and shipping

You can also add FAL for $3400 for both ER1 and ER3.

I’m really not sure if adding any extra electronic stuff on my car. I liked the simplicity of my 2005 exige. Nothing electric to break. The 2 v6 exiges I owned were upgraded with cruise control…and nothing else…and that never worked. So when I discovered that the emira had seat warmers(some 8 months after I owned it), discovered by my wife, I immediately researched Tillets just to get rid of another thing on the list that’s electronic that will break down long before anything mechanical. So the thought of electronically adjustable nitrons just leaves me a bit cold. It is a pain to adjust the rears, but I think that’s the way I will go.

If it makes you feel any better these probably weigh less than the OEM dampers lol. In the end though, the Emira is not an exige replacement.

Too right it isn`t. The410Ex was 1050kgs as opposed to the emiras 1400plus kgs. Apart from dosing up on some bowel moving meds, I`m not going to bother too much reducing the emiras weight. I`ll stick to doing the usual exaust, cold air and JB4 upgrades to power, add some nitrons , and accept the embarrassing track times and blame my aging as the cause.
