Emira JB4 Tuning Now Available for I4 & V6 Cars!

Hi Greg,
As mentioned in an earlier post here, presumably installation instructions will be provided along with the recommended mounting location for the tuner module in the engine bay. When surfing the net, I came across a couple of aftermarket mounts for the JB4 customized for the Supra and the WRX. Is there a plan to offer a such a mount for the Emira? Will one be even needed, or will zip ties do the trick?
I think between @kitkat and @mr.suntorytime they will have a clever mount setup. We could make a nice powder coating aluminum mount as well.
Initially you can use zip ties or the heavy duty scotch lok velcro to mount it though.

Will the JB4 be able to control/give you control of the Emira’s exhaust valve like it does in other applications?
As far as I know it will not be able to do anything with the exhaust valve.

One of my biggest concerns being an early adopter is a quickly upgraded model making this one obsolete. For example, I bought the short shifter that Greg initially offered. Before I even had a chance to install it people started noting issues with it and shifting problems. He replaced it with a different model that apparently fixes the problem. I have now got a short shifter that I never installed because I don't want to put a defective part in my car instead of the version that works.

I hope this isn't going to be one of those cases where a new model with upgraded features or better safety parameters is released in a few months leaving original buyers who took a chance out to dry

The initial short shifter was a product from Forge, not one that we made.
We ran the forge one in our own car and while it worked it could have been better, so thats why we developed our own and replaced the forge offering with it.
If yours is new I would suggest selling to a local GR Corolla owner as thats what those kits were originally designed for.
Email us and we will take care of you on a new version one as well.

Yeah we got the community covered. I already have a bracket in testing phase and should be ready to go by end of next week.

By the way 100 octane does indeed exist in Socal. My recon netted results today.

i just did fill up with some 101 octane in west la. $14 a gal... mixed 3gal to 10gal 91.

would like to not spend that much on gas. might have to drive out of my way to secure the 100@9/g

I live in the Granada Hills area so right down the 118. Are you familiar with any stations selling 93 by any chance in the vicinity?
Add a few gallons of 100 octane or appropriate amount of Torco or VP race gas additive each fill up. Kind of a pain but an alternative where 93 is not available ie AZ and California

Found this drivetrain loss estimator to help us understand possible crank HP. Clipped the Front Wheel Drive transaxle drivetrain ; which is essentially our setups.

12.5 % for DTC and 12% for Manual.

Drivetrain horsepower loss guestimator

Front Wheel Drive (FWD): Generally has the lowest power loss (around 10% base) due to the engine and transmission being integrated into one unit (transaxle) and a shorter driveline

Transmission Type

Each transmission type adds different levels of power loss to the base drivetrain loss:
  • Manual: Lowest additional loss (+2%) due to its mechanical simplicity.
  • Automatic:Higher losses (+3%) due to the torque converter and more complex internals.
  • Dual Clutch (DCT): Moderate losses (+2.5%) combining some benefits of both manual and automatic designs

FYI for anyone curious about methanol: The JB4 has built in ability to talk to their FSB JB4 WMI controller. This means you can install their methanol kit and have it fully controlled for safety, progressive flow, etc. You can run your methanol tank and have a map based on local gas + methanol for when you want the extra cooling and power, and then say you want to preserve the methanol in your tank for a long road trip, or prefer to drive around town in the normal 91/93 map you can do that. This is extremely convenient, just change maps on your phone...the system has safeties to pull timing and knock say if your tank empties while on boost. This was a really nice surprise to learn all this is integrated in the JB4 app. For those of us in California or anywhere with 91, this means you can effectively run a map similar to full race gas 100 octane safely with pump gas while running the meth - and it can revert back to the normal 91 map when you don't. The published power level difference between the 91 map and the high 93 map is significant...even more so on the E30 map. In theory the meth map would look similar to the E30 map, maybe little more due to the cooling? Anyways SUPER COOL

I thought meth was bad for you. In any case, I'm listening.

Is there a 100 octane map for the v6 or does the car explode at that point? Also interestingly the v6 dyno seems more sensitive to octane rating than the i4.

I don't think there is an existing 100 octane map but anyone can go to Burger Tuning and get one made for their car. My shop will install the methanol kit, run some street logs then will take the car to Burger to create a new 91+methanol map. I had this same setup on my supercharged Elise...and then my Alfa Romeo 4C (turbo + methanol). I love to always run methanol for the cooling and cleaning...keeps your engine head immaculate it's basically getting a methanol steam bath constantly. But it was previously inconvenient because the main ECU didnt have a way to control the maps dynamically if you ran out of meth, and carrying jugs in your car for long multiday trips is a nonstarter lol. So this is super convenient for anyone planning on getting the JB4, would be easy to add their WMI kit and have it all seemlessly integrated.

So only take road trips to areas where meth is easy to get. Good rule! Guess most major cities are a go!
