They all do, and always have done, but there’s no storage under there…..

Thought I read there are four bolts that hold the hood vs a cable release

There are 3 bolts that need to be removed to lift the front hood, and there's a prop rod inside to hold it up. There's no cable release. The tool for the bolts is in the accessory bag in the trunk.

It would be nice if they used an actual latch system. Why they chose to hold the hood down with screws and fiddly caps make no sense to me.

Screws are cheap and easy to engineer. Latches are fiddly and more money. Plus theres nothing in there to do if you arent planning on busting out tools anyways.

From a designer's standpoint, yes, screws are easy and cheap. However, it's very easy to go into any of a half dozen catalogs and find a latch to buy (it's more complicated than that with safety regulations, of course but still..). From a UX standpoint, it's a fail. When you're designing a high end product with the intent of providing a certain experience, you don't use a few screws. Not to mention the cosmetic wear that's going to occur to the little covers and the cowl plastic with repeated cycling. This isn't a minimalist Elise. It could be worse, they could have decided to use double sided tape or glue.

Not only is regular access to the brake/clutch master is required for maintenance, it may be desired to ensure the fluid level is correct periodically. It's an obvious application where a latch is preferred.
