Thnx to @docron who did some easy surgery (the plate just pops off) we were complaining to each other the shifter design seems somewhat arbitrary. Being more of a minimalist I was wondering how hard it would be to take off the stock shifter and get something made that is simpler and/or just different. Turns out it's very easy to get it down to the bolt, pics courtesy of Docron (thnx!). You can put a ball/sphere there now...whatever. We're going to get something made for us from an artist we know.

I hated the stock shifter. It was the first thing i looked to change when i got the car. I was frustrated to find that the shaft was not threaded. Making the change more difficult.
I currently have a new knob on it, but it is not fully secure.
What do you have in mind for securing the knob your going to use?

I saw an interesting one on a Chinese store that sells used things.

Saw some references to Volvo/polestar/lynkco too so maybe the shifters/shift knobs are interchangeable

That is interesting.
With it being hollow in the center, have they cut the mounting shaft?
I have a couple ideas for mounting mine.
But I'm not modifying the original shaft.

There is a retention screw on the front that secures the OEM shifter knob. To secure any other knob, you can either slipfit it or use some kind of retention screw on the front, back or side. The shifter post is a simple hexagon shape so you could probably easily 3D print some kind of internal sleeve for any knob you may want to use.

The hole on the side is not threaded but probably could be used for a retention screw/pin.

if you guys want something more aggressive, upload the measurements and i can draw something up.

shaft length from plastic part end - to the tip of the metal shaft

flat to flat (front to back, and side side)

and lastly the screw size. please give metric measurements.
