More details for KEF Audio

I briefly tried it with window down and I thought it was better, but will have another go when this bl@@dy rain stops!!

I would say the improvement in in the detail and warmth in the mid and high ranges - the sub is still not great.

I think the bass have gotten a bit tighter/punchier and not as muddy/mushy. Not much but you can feel the difference. They probably redid the EQ curve and maybe even changed some of the crossover points between tre/mid and bass.

Sadly, a software update is not going to fix the blown speaker sound with the windows down. That is an inherent problem with the physical system. All the can do is adjust the maximum bass output, which just nerfs the system. You have to use an aftermarket sub.

I just dug into my sub area and the design is laughably bad. Time to upgrade!

Well it appears I have a timely response to the above given that I have just driven for around an hour, often deliberately with both windows down (for testing purposes not to sound like a gangster).

They HAVE fixed this issue. No idea how. With windows down my sub no longer completely cr@ps itself. In fact to a certain degree of volume it now sounds and feels like a much bigger sub - with some house / ibiza tunes on, my rear bulkead glass / tailgate was visibly shaking with it.

I think they have also brought the inbuilt tweeters in the front door speakers into play more too. Certainly no need to put additional ones in the pillars now.

So all in all it is quite a revelation!! I'm also thinking that the system is now 'just' loud enough at max volume. I think there is a certain degree of trickery as the volume bar goes all the way to the end of the scale before it is really properly loud and doesn't seem to really get going until 2/3rds of the way up. This update certainly feels like the system is being driven harder and as my car has 30,000 miles on so the KEFS are properly run in, I no longer have a desire/need to change the system itself.

Pretty happy this end.

Cheers all.

I genuinely don’t mean to be a “bad guy,” but I would be shocked if software fixes this problem. BUT I don’t have any experience with the update so I obviously have no way to comment meaningfully. Sounds like I’ll be headed to the dealer for an update to see what it does.

Can only tell you what I am hearing.

And I'm quite into my hi-fi - I have Quad and Marantz and KEF gear at home so it is not like IDGAF

See what you think when you get it done.

Awesome!! Can you report if the popping noise when opening door is fixed too?

Hmm good question. Mine didn't pop every single time I opened the door but I certainly haven't noticed a single one since the re-flash.

So very curious to know what they have done!!

I don’t mean any disrespect at all. I am super hopeful. Will report back after the update.

All good buddy.

So weird this KEF thing isn't it. Like who signed it off originally? Can't imagine KEF wanted their reputation tainted. But who tested it?

Like who signed off the wipers in the Emira?
Like who signed off no sun visors in my Exige V6 CUP?
Like who signed off the gear shift made of cheese in my 211?

Ahhhh Lotus got to love them, we forgive them all this weird stuff as nothing else drives SO good.
