Ok as much as I love the shift boot delete and full open shifter look, and I really really love it.... This would be totally next level. Gonna be stalking the forum for this update now.
IF you decide to sell this.. Count me in.. I can give you money now.Been toying with the idea, will play around with it this fall/winter.
Before you ask:
- Yes the reverse lockout would need to be removed to make the shaft thinner, an entirely new shaft may actually be needed.
- Unsure how if I can come up with a mechanism to keep the lockout in place or not.
- Yes this would have some side to side adjustability.
- Unsure about spacing from gate to gate or throw length -- will be experimenting with that.
- Would probably get the base made in 6061 gloss black anodizing and the top in 6061 brushed aluminum to attempt to match the existing surrounds.

nooooooo... you are brilliant.. you can figure this out..lol chances are this will be a one off project for me, it most likely won’t work on any other car
cm... mm.... Same difference. If I can make it work for multiple cars I'll figure something out, but this is Lotus we're talking about, the variability from shifter to shifter isn't like +/- 1mm, it's more like +/- 1cm.
Can't win em all. Just means more time and energy freed up for your next idea. Keep at itBad news, the shift gate is a no go.
I was planning on making a brand new shift lever with a thinner profile in order to pass through gates, but unfortunately this shaft is welded to the lower portion of the ear. Part Number 3 below:

This is necessary because I can only really work with a 10mm diameter shift lever to get a reasonable shift pattern in place. Right now that diameter is 14mm which means I need closer to a 15.5-16mm shift gate width -- basically the H pattern goes away completely at this diameter.
- Replicating this part from scratch is way outside of my abilities.
- Putting #3 into a lathe and trimming it down to 10mm diameter is possible but it's irreversible and will no longer work with the oem reverse lockout sleeve. This is a permanent modification I'm not willing to do.
- A new #3 can't be purchased alone, it comes with the entire shift assembly and costs $1500.
Fun while it lasted![]()
