Extended warranty for UK Emira owners from Oakmere Motor Group (Lotus Cheshire)

I’ve had an email now saying they apologise for the delay, but said they will get it sorted ASAP
They've been telling me it would be September since July, then October and now 'your warranty runs out in January so it will be sorted by then'.

I'm wondering if it would be better to get them to pay for the service booked for December, £700, and buy a warranty myself. Will they honour their promise or are they delaying as they know Lotus will be gone in a few months in its present form?

Exactly my thought, £5k limit is not sufficient enough for a big issue.
Many independent garages charge way less than £140 ph, obviously depends where you live but I use 2 local ones that charge £60ph and have used a specialist garage that works on high end stuff that charge £96 ph, all inclusive VAT.

20 hrs for engine out and back in I believe.

Good point but my thought was the cost of a new engine, surely more than £5k?

That was my concern

The Toyota engine is as bombproof as they come. Has there been even one documented failure or issue reported on here?
It's the electrics and the 'Lotus' parts that worry me. The engine will probably outlast the car, especially with the relatively low mileages they'll see compared to the usual application of the Engine in Toyota and Lexus cars.

Another solid point

I've just been informed that they can't provide an extended warranty as 'Car Care Plan refuse to accept the documentation provided'. I can't provide an invoice for the car as I won it, proof of ownership, documents provided by the raffle company etc not good enough. I'm thinking Escalations is pulling a fast one. They've offered to pay for the service its booked in for in December, £650 v £900ish for the warranty.

Hmmm seems like they’re just using it as an excuse.

I’ve still heard nothing.

I've contacted Car Care Plan direct and am waiting for a reply. I'm surprised they haven't got back to you as you can provide purchase details.

I don’t know if they have even heard of me. All my discussions have been directly with Lotus and they’ve said they’ll sort it out for me.

No, I meant Lotus CS.

I've spoken to Vicky at Oakmere, very helpful, and she informed me that Car Care have only just informed dealers about the extended warranty available for existing owners, its been in the works for months but only last week were they informed.

Contact looks to be via the service department at the Lotus dealers.

Attached are the T & Cs for the Oakmere provided service plan. I've queried the cover of diagnostics as the policy appears to exclude that item, I'm awaiting further info.

Clearly not as comprehensive as the manufacturer warranty but better than nothing at this stage.

1 hour of diagnostics connecting to a diagnostic machine is covered, if parts need dismantling then an arrangement with the provider must be made ie you have to pay towards.

Car Care Plan extended warranty via Lotus dealers service department prices. Excluding Assist its £300+ more than the Oakmere plan. I gave a physical copy of the warranty T&Cs and will ask for a pdf to be sent.

Its pretty expensive when compared to the Porsche warranty for the Cayman, and quite a few exclusions eg LED lights/taillights are not covered. Ive already had 1 replaced under warranty, £2k out of warranty plus fitting which is rear bumper off!

I assume "Assist" is the roadside assist i.e. The AA ?
If so I wouldnt want it anyway, as get that coverage via my bank account.
But as you say, even without the assist, its more expensive than the Oakmere & Jon Seal plans.
Has anyone done a comparison against the 3 plans to see what differences on coverage exist ?

Yes, roadside collection. Pretty standard AA/RAC cover. The Oakmere provided cover T&Cs are 2 pages vs 20+ for the Car Care (CC) T&Cs, make of that what you will. The more T&Cs the more get out clauses.

My main takeaway differences are the £5k per claim limit for Oakmere cover and unlimited claim up to the value of the car when purchased & no LED light cover with CC. There were other differences but off the top of my head they stuck out. Electricals eg stereo/navigation/screens/air bags aren't covered more the mechanical side is. Obviously paint isn't covered with either.

Its a case of what is most likely to go wrong with the car, the engine and running gear appears to be pretty sound so £5k would probably cover most problems, or at least be a large contribution towards the cost. Lights failing I would think are more of a problem going forward and the cost is crazy for LEDs. I've requested a digital copy so will see when that arrives but you can contact your dealers service department for a copy.

FWIW for my recent breakdown the new engine control unit cost £5.5K, a new engine loom I was told was around £4K.

Wiring looms not covered with the Car Care Plan warranty, not sure with Oakmeres. I think both of us have had most of the things that could go wrong replaced, ECU, wiring loom, spark plugs, coil packs and ancillaries on mine replaced 1 yr ago.

So most of the common issues are not covered? But they want a grand a year and it only covers up to 5K? Not looking very good to be honest.
