Emira Owner
I can’t believe my Emira will soon be 3 years old and the initial warranty period will be over. My local Lotus service centre, Oakmere, are offering an extended warranty (can be used at any VAT registered garage).

I don’t usually go for extended warranties on other things I buy, but I think it will be a sound investment for my Emira. My ownership experience has been pretty typical, with me having the well-known issues of doors and rear panels paint bubbling, replacement climate control and a couple of heater resistors. Taking into account just the labour costs at retail prices for this work, it would be way more than the cost of the extended warranty.

I am not affiliated with Oakmere in any way apart from being a customer of theirs for the past few years, originally with my Evora 410 Sport and now the Emira, I have posted this information with their permission.

Please contact Vicky Clough at Oakmere on 01606 41481 for further information.

"Wear and tear included" ? That can't be right can it? If so what do they mean by this? Surely they aren't going to replace my tyres, oil, filters etc under warranty?

Excludes bodywork and paint as you might expect. Even so this looks like a decent deal.

Also a £5,000 claim limit maybe seems low for an Emira. Does anyone know the approximate cost of a full engine out rebuild, say if it throws a rod or something?

I saw a while back that Jon Seal Sportscars have put together their own Emira warranty which is a little more expensive pending options:

Jon Seal offers a cheaper version (but still £50 more than the Oakmere 1-year one) if you use an independent Lotus shop rather than a delaership, the Jon Seal one also provides breakdown cover.
Oakmere provides a 3-year version that seems much better value.

Was there ever any update from Lotus, on them providing an extended warranty?
Last I had heard, they had said they were about to launch one and then changed their minds

I’m still waiting on my extended Lotus warranty. They agreed to it in May. I did chase them 3 weeks ago and they said they were working on it! A week later they asked for my original invoice (don’t know why). Since then complete silence despite chasing.

Exactly my thought, £5k limit is not sufficient enough for a big issue.

Ill ask the stupid question- Whats the no claim limit but a £5k individual limit means?

OK I rang Vicky and asked all these questions:

- the £5,000 limit is the per incident limit,
- there is no restriction on the amount of incidents you could have,
- the £5,000 limit can't be increased as no underwriter offers this, Vicky stated that they have never had an incident that cost more that this though,
- the warranty can be transferred to the new owner if the car is sold, you need to inform the warranty company and pay a £25 admin fee,
- wear and tear does not cover things like oil, brake pads, tyres but is meant to give some extra cover for breakdowns that some other companies might refuse to cover "normal wear and tear" for example an engine sensor failing
- no breakdown cover is included (it is expected that everyone already has this)
- It covers issues with the multimedia system which several other warranties do not cover
- £140 per hr labour rate so Lotus Dealership, Lotus Independent or even your favourite local garage is OK for repairs but they must be VAT registered as a garage.

She will provide the full terms and conditions when you apply for the warranty if you need them (you should at least read these).

I am not affiliated with Oakmere in any way, I have never used them - I just thought this sounded OK so rang to check the details.

Exactly the questions I was going to ask so thank you for asking and posting.

I believe that Endeavour Lotus Essex are offering a 1 year extension for £1k and Lotus Cars haven't offered anything so far. My warranty ends in January so I'll almost certainly take the Oakmere cover.

I asked Lotus Customer Care about this yesterday and received an immediate response. Their extended warranty is being handled by Car Care Plan and we should contact them direct. I personally prefer the Oakmere option.

The last word I had from Lotus CC was that “they would sort it out”

I've been assured by Lotus only in the last fortnight that their product (backed by car care plan) will be available in dealer portals very soon. Will update as soon as I know.

The really interesting thing to know would be: would a clutch issue be fair game under this clause. you could argue both sides of whether that should be considered a wear item, or just a thing that can suffer "wear and tear" but be unusual that it would fail and need replacing 🤔

I asked a similar hypothetical question to that - although about O2 sensors and not clutch. I think the essence of the answer was; if it is just a worn clutch plate - an item that is a consumable - then you are not covered but if it was another problem with the clutch that would not be expected to fail as a "wear item" then you are covered. Worth checking the fine print of the cover.

I've been promised a 1yr extended warranty via Car Care Plan since June, I received an email asking for a copy sales invoice too. Providing an invoice will be tricky as I won the car. I assume they need to know as usually the claiming is limited to what you paid for the car, in my case £7.90!

It's good to see more options appearing and it becoming a competitive space. With a bit of leg work someone could compare them all and put the information together in one extended warranty buyers guide post.
