2027 Emira Changes

The “Wheels “ mag Australia, has no V6 available to buy new anymore in the new vehicle spec and price list.
Wheels does have issues with wrong specs in this section from time to time though.
Does seem consistent with speculation on the V6.

On a side note is the 2027 getting a mid-cycle refresh since 2027 will be 5 years since its launch. If so, when do expect to see some spy shots?

It also says the v6 will get an upgrade.

As to what the hybrid is there was this hybrid evora test.

Feels a little more like the new rx7 concept where the ICE engine is recharging the electric engine. Either way, I have to assume Lotus will buy a unit from another manufacturer. There is no way they would develop a bespoke drivetrain for the emira.
A range extended EV works for a commuter car that never sees extended full power. But it will absolutely fail in a performance car. Even if it posts great numbers it won’t have the endurance to satisfy a Lotus buyer. The Range Extender would have to be able to generate sustained 400hp to 500hp to keep similar performance to the current Emira’s.

I'm no fan. The whole thing is so backwards. Just make it a great EV or a great ICE with EV torque assist to say it's a hybrid. Who cares about range extender or ICE to recharge EV batteries. It's missing the forest for the trees.

Indeed; Evija, SC-01, Tesla Roadster (1), etc has proven you can make a great pure-BEV sports car, but I accept that the market doesn't appear to want that. A _hybrid_ would be so compromised that I really doubt it would be great.

I mean, this seems to align with the parent companies. Geely saying, we have batteries, use batteries, you said you would use batteries in the EV's, they didn't sell, so use batteries, we need to keep the factories on. Lotus saying, um you're still paying to keep the lights on? ok sure, we'll do that.

Will this be marketed as torque fill for the low RPM characteristics of the V6 - yep
Will reliability further be degraded in complexity and cramming parts in - yep
Will replacement parts and batteries, and charging ports that don't open or start be available in all markets - nope
Will the parent companies care... / shrug.
Geely moves more batteries and keeps the Lotus badge, Lotus keeps the lights on
hybrid will be marketed as win win

It 100% makes sense. It simplifies hybrid powertrain because the generator is physically decoupled from the drive wheels. So you can tune the generator to run in the most efficient part of the powerband. And you can take advantage of regen and Electric power delivery.

It’s why we have diesel electric locomotives.

For a commuter car it really is the most flexible hybrid right now.

I have a Tesla Model S Plaid. It’s great. So long as im around civilization. But go off the beaten path and finding a L3 charger is difficult.

But if I wanted to try and do some of the fun runs with the car club it just wouldn’t work. Chargers are way too far apart to make it feasible.

I took the plaid to the drag strip. I clicked off about 10 runs which took the battery from ~96% to 70%. After that the trap speed dropped from 148mph average to 143mph.

And there were no places to charge nearby so the day was done.

I have absolutely no interest in a hybrid, especially in a lotus. Even if they try and incentivize the switch to a hybrid powertrain by adding more power as evident with other sports cars coming to market, still not worth it. It adds a level of complexity that will be difficult to service once it is 8-10 years old. Batteries die, regardless of mileage, it's just age. The additional HP is also not worth it given that the HP that comes on non-hybrid powertrains is plenty for the roads.

I have a tesla. I love it is as daily driver, and at this point, I wouldn't consider replacing it with any ICE vehicles. But I know what it is. It's an appliance with excellent utility that i can put lots of miles on, but it will be in a land fill in 10-15 years from now. Hybrid power trains will also adopt this downside. I can't imagine what these 300k ferrari hybrids will cost to service once they are a decade or two old.

I agree with one of the above comments. Let electric be electric, and ICE be ICE. I'll be keeping my V6 Manual.

My 85 kWh Model S is 11 yo and in great condition (modulo seat wear). It still has 90% of the original range. To upgrade it with a salvaged 100 kWh battery is quite reasonably (well under $10k) so I doubt it’ll see a landfill soon.

Unfortunately with batteries, they drop off fast, and the degradation isn't linear. So it being at 90% after 11 years doesn't mean in another 11 more years, you'll be at 80. It'll just basically fail quickly with little warning. I, along with most EV owners (as evident by the huge depreciation on them over the years), will not spend 10k on a battery (especially a salvaged used or refurbished battery which will be your only option at a 10k price point) on a car worth 12k. It also has 11 year old technology in it and other aging components. Again, i love my tesla, but it will be in a landfill after 15 years, and i'll replace it with another

Since its now been confirmed, I'm pretty sure thew PHEV variant will ONLY be offered in AT not Manual.

Hm. 2027 order books are already open, and there are no hardware changes to the Emira.

There was an earnings call held in 2025 where Feng Qingfeng mentioned a PHEV Emira for 2027, but the world changes fast and when the order books opened, there wereno changes to the car.

This page uses all kinds of language like "Is expected to..." and "reports indicate..." which makes me think it's probably a programmatic SEO funnel and not an official announcement. No shade on Lotus New London, but I don't think they would get the exclusive on that info from Lotus.

Maybe they meant the year 2027, not model year 2027s? Aka 2028 MY.

I have a feeling this will be unveiled later this year and be ready for delivery in calendar year 2027 (prob as a 2028 Emira).... It's not replacing any other variant as they know the manual transmission special editions will still bring in some money. But for outright performance - based on what they are getting out of that powertrain in the Eletre, I expect some serious performance numbers. Entering Supercar levels for sure - but this technology is EV first and gas power second. Makes sense to introduce this under the Emira before creating a full EV sports car like the Theory 1. AMG powertrain has to be on the chopping block - the manual to survive a few more years. The only question I have - Will this new Emira variant be built in China or UK?

Could be, but the point is a lone dealer in a secondary market wouldn't be the worldwide leader in unveiling this news officially, I think this page is just set up to capture the organic traffic of anyone searching PHEV Emira based on the finance call mention last year.

We've seen how quickly plans can change with Lotus.
