Shift Knob Replacement

I'm going to be controversial and say I really like the original gear knob. If the OEM one was a crappy plastic/leather coated knob as found in other cars we would all be paying a fortune to mod it with a bare milled aluminium knob.

I've also never suffered the roughness hurting my delicate hands complaint I've read about. It's a raw sports car. Put the hand moisturiser away and drive the thing like it's meant to be driven, or get back in your Tesla!

I like the style of the stock shift knob too although I wish it was a little bigger. If I could find an oversized one in the same style I would get it. Monkeywrench sells one but it doesn't have the shift pattern milled out.

Black Forest Industries makes some beautiful aftermarket shift knobs and shift boots in various materials and colors. Everything from perforated leather, Alcantara, weighted billet, carbon, etc.. Most available with custom colors/stitching. They're a little pricey IMO, but good quality.

I'll reach out to see if they're interest in doing a Lotus run for us. Anyone happen to know the Emira shift knob thread size?
Did you ever get any traction with this? I'd love to replace the stock "ball" either their air leather weighted one but im concerned about direct replacement / feel. How will it work with / without the set screw and will it have the space for the reverse lockout mechanism to slide up into it like the factory one does. They make the best looking knobs ibe seen so far...

Post 77 (of this thread) has the dimensions and thread size.

I also contacted Black Forest a while back to see if they had interest in adding an Emira shift knob option and at that time they were not interested.

I’ve made wooden knobs for Porsche in th past and will probably get around to making one for my Emira one day.

In the meantime, I wish lotus would make the one fitted to the Clark car available as an accessory. Doubt that will happen although they do sell black badges, so who knows?

I've had a wooden shift knob from the Evora special edition on order for about 6 months now from a UK based dealer. Had an update this week that one may be available. I also forwarded the pictures of that new one from the Clark car and the parts place thought they may be able to get one, so they placed an order. We'll see. Hard to tell from the picture, and it may not be an actual part, (maybe photoshop) but the Clark version seems a bit darker and in a matte finish. The crown piece on top with the markings on it is also sitting flush, unlike the knob from the Evora.

I wasn't happy with the shift knob and have done a couple of modifications that I don't think anyone has done yet. My first thought was to get a really good good looking wooden ball and make my own shift knob.

When you start making these for the Emira let me know. Slightly bigger diameter than OEM would be nice.

Yes, a 2" diameter would be nice with no set screw. The hole in the back bothers the heck out of me.
hard to do with engraved pattern... you need the set screw in order to clock it in the correct position and have it snug.

Not necessarily. I have a Receseng knob and their adapter is adjustable and keeps the knob very firmly in place. No set screw needed.

No reason that adapter couldn't be copied. Seems less complicated than the knob itself.
Unfortunately, Raceseng went out of business.
That will just add cost for no real reason besides eliminating the setscrew. I've done so with my own design but its not everyone's cup of tea I've discovered since it doesn't have the H pattern inscribed on the top.

Actually, imo the worst part of it is the mismatched color/finish.
