Toyota for check engine light?

Did my first oil change at 1500 miles. Next day got a check engine light

Question 1: any ideas?. Oil level is good.
Question 2: can Toyota diagnose this? Lotus dealer is 2 hours away, so don’t want to invest a round trip if I don’t have to.

can you check what codes were thrown because it may not even be related to the oil change

Will it tell me codes, or do I need a reader?

you can go to any autozone and ask them to read the codes for free in the parking lot. since its a common toyota engine they should be able to read it (maybe call them first to confirm)

Buy 1 obd2 reader and figure out which code is throwing , most times is nothing big and you can clear code and drive it safely

There are several threads on the Forum dealing with OBD2 scanners. I bought a scanner, sent it back, then bought another more expensive. It worked good for my Mercedes and my spouse's Volkswagen Atlas SUV and had better diagnostics compared to the first cheaper one...but didn't work well at all for my Emira, since it didn't include "Lotus" on its list of vehicle manufacturers (both Mercedes and Volkswagen are listed). I then purchased the BlueDriver OBD2 scanner that others on the Forum recommended. It DOES recognize "Lotus" on its menu, so it's been working well for my Emira. It won't give you complete diagnostics since Lotus takes a proprietary approach and guards its software, requiring you to sign up for an expensive subscription service to access it. Even my auto shop with a ++ expensive scanner (costing thousands of dollars), can't access the Emira ECU.

Others have mentioned other scanners that work for the Emira, so apparently its not just the BlueDriver that recognizes Lotus. Good luck and check out this thread for more information:

Got the BlueDriver ODB2. Holy cow! ordered it on Amazon at 10am, it was delivered by 3pm. 5 hour turnaround! Crazy. Pissed me off setting it up - I had to create an account and give them an email address, that they had to verify, and it needed my location services enabled .... seriously? More like the Chinese spying on us. You don't need my email address to read an engine code.

But it worked. It was an evaporative system pressure sensor. When I changed the oil, I started the engine and let it idle to bleed through the oil into the filter before checking the oil level. I did this with the oil filler cap off, so presumably the crank case didn't pressurize correctly. I'm old school, and did car work before all these new fangled gadgets, so my bad. Anyhow, cleared the code and it has not come back.

@netsinah thanks for info; question; on the unit car list what info is listed for “lotus”-just this name or does it drop down to “Emira”, year, etc? Was there any trouble getting reader to recognize the VIN or other model specifics data?

The scanner menu simply says "Lotus", then it recognizes and populates the Emira VIN. So it doesn't say "Emira" and I can't recall if there's anything else on the scanner about the vehicle (such as its year). It then downloads from the ECU and provides info on what I assume are the basic systems...so nothing overly detailed, as indicated in my last post.

That's better than my more expensive scanner, which doesn't have "Lotus" on the menu and won't populate the Emira VIN, so it simply doesn't work for the Emira (or likely any Lotus). It will (for example) populate the VIN for my Mercedes (which is a vehicle manufacturer on its menu) then scan the Mercedes ECU. That's been ++ helpful, since it helped me diagnose a misfiring ignition coil, which I personally replaced, saving me +++ bucks, had I taken it into a shop.
