Has anyone replaced the cross gate cable end to replace the stock rubber bushing with something more substantial? GRP makes a replacement. The goal is to reduce the slop created from the rubber busing connection.

Any tips on being able to remove the stock cross gate cable end? I am having trouble unscrewing it because the cable is twisting, I can’t tell if there is a locking nut. If there is a locking nut does anyone know the size? Access is very deep with little clearance.
Thanks!

Yes, there is a locking nut, just use 2 wrenches, it's a tight spot. Then make sure when you adjust the new one that it lines up exactly with the shifter connection with no force needed to slide it on.
Remove the air intake and move some hoses out of the way if you haven't already.

I had to remove my intake to get access. DO NOT DROP ANYTHING. Put some towels down or something directly under the assembly, you will regret your life if you don’t follow my advice here.

Thanks! Is the locking nut 7mm? Everything is moved out of the way, I think I may need a long right angle needle nose pliers for the locking nut.

The towel is a good idea. I hope the upgraded cross link end was worth it.

I'm also interested in the cross gate and shifter cable ends. For those who have done this, how different does it feel? I haven't done this but I think the process will be similar to the short shifter install.

My take on the solid mounts is they are worth it. They’re pretty inexpensive and make a difference. Just be realistic on what you expect out of them. You’re talking about a few mm of play in an otherwise very sloppy transmission cable and linkage situation. They aren’t going to turn the Emira shifter feel into an s2000.

Sorry I wanted to take pictures but it was so tight in there. There's no way. But I used an extended handle c shaped hose removing pliers and a long box wrench to reach in.

I upgraded last month. Crossgate one (deeper one of the 2 since GRP provide both) is a giant pain in the ass, and I almost gave up on it. I had to take out the entire intake system to reach it. The one you guys switch for short shifter is the easy one to get to. Anyway, my car was already shifting fine in stock form. However, when the engine got hot, that's when I had some issues with rubber getting way too soft and shifting was not as tight. This kit changed that completely and tightened things up completely. Stands up to heat since it's all metal.

I actually bought the metal shifter cable from Kaiden on facebook and the crossgate one from GRP. Kaiden's is higher quality for sure. Not sure where he sourced his.

Probably a dumb question… but can still be used with the GRP short shifter as well correct?

Thanks for the advice. I gave up trying yesterday but I’ll give it another shot today. I’ll try with those tools.

In hindsight, that cross gate one might be easier from the bottom…but it looks tight either way.

Well I’m going to have to get this. That forward and backward play always bothered me. I got the GRP short shifter partly because I thought it might tighten that up. It didn’t but now really like the short throw. Hopefully with this all is resolved.

Also, I used a cardboard and cut out a hole and taped it tight around the console to hold the shifter while messing with the cables.

It's tight

I was able to make the swap today. The locking nut was 8mm and it was easier to loosen and tighten the nut while the cross cable end was still attached to the bolt.

The reverse locks out plate needed to be adjusted after tightening everything up.

There is still considerable right and left movement of the stick when in gear, however the overall movement between gears does feel more solid. Has anyone found a solution to make the stick feel more solid while in gear?

Nice! Glad you got it. While in gear thing would be at shifter level…I know acuity makes a bunch kits for Hondas etc but nothing for the Emira. Springs, bushings for the shifter area would fix what you’re talking about.

I have faith Greg will figure this out for us!

Yeah the play in gear and after installing the cable ends lies in tolerances at the shifter assembly and also in the transmission bell crank/selector. Not much could be done for those aside from a new shifter assembly.
I tried contacting a couple companies that make killer shifters for various others cars I’ve had experience with before and neither seemed interested in our cars.
I’ll keep trying! Making something from scratch will a ton of R&D vs adapting an already proven one into these cars.
