Ramps for getting clean access to the front lift pads with a floor jack!

Hello to all of you DIY people here that like working on their cars at home!

If you have tried using a floor jack on your Emira, you will know how odd and inconveniently the front lift pads are located on this car! I have an extended reach low profile jack and it still just barely reaches the pads without hitting the side skirts!

The fix, I made these today with some 1”x12” board from Home Depot and a 2x4” for a bump stop. Lastly I ordered the linked 1/4” grip pad for the bottom.

Wood - 1x12” Pine Board
Bottom piece - 3 feet
Middle - 2 feet
Top - 1 foot
Stopper - 1 foot piece of 2x4”

Note - Actual size for 12” width is 11.25

This provides plenty of additional clearance to get a floor jack to the lift points! The total cost is about 65 dollars plus some screws which I already had!

I drive up on a couple of scrap 2x's and have room to get a Harbor Freight racing jack on the front lift pads. The rears are accessible with no 2x's.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass. You can lift the entire side of the car from the rear point so I'm wondering why you would use the front point.

You were but that’s cool if you don’t want to own it, to answer your question though…because as the entire side of the car goes up, the pivot line shifts diagonally between the remaining front and rear wheels on the opposite side. If the front wheels are not chocked and the electronic parking brake is not fully engaged, the car can easily roll or pivot off the jack saddle. The floor jack would need to roll slightly forward as you lift to stay perfectly centered under the jacking point. If you are lifting on an uneven surface, rough asphalt, or if the jack's wheels are blocked or incapable of rolling, the dramatic tilt of the car could cause the jack to slip off from the designated pad, causing severe structural or fiberglass damage.I guess that is not a risk I want to have as I apply torque specs to brake and suspension parts! So I personally see this as the safer and more insured option to work on one corner at a time. To each their own!
