My Specs:
Emira I4
So guys i just my car delivered yesterday i sent directly to the shop for ppf but on my limited time with the car its sound like a loud dyson vacuum can anyone confirm if this is how it supposed to sound i tested drove the v6 as they didnt have 4 se for test drive it did not have this issue-annoyance.

If you're talking about that kind of high-pitched whistle, mine does sound like that too, it's supposed to be like that

Loads of examples of what the Emira i4 Turbo sounds like on YouTube - plus some showing what it sounds like with aftermarket bits.
Try those videos for comparison if you didn't before buying the car & bought it blind (deaf?).

That is the nature of all turbo engines including the Lotus/MB I4. Turbos spin because the exhaust system is routed through them. The resulting boost creates much more power, but it also greatly changes and muffles the exhaust note.

For as long as there have been turbocharged engines, car enthusiasts have complained about the exhaust note, which is usually much quieter, and has a "whoosh" which is the high velocity air created by the turbos.

The V6 is supercharged, which produces boost an entirely different way. It's not driven by exhaust gases, but uses a belt driven by the engine itself. The exhaust system is much more open.

The advantage of turbos is that they don't rob power from the engine, which the belt drive on a supercharged engine does. Thus, turbos are more efficient.

I`ve always said mine sounds like a 1990`s Vauxhall Cavalier.

One of the first thing i`m looking to change when the Warranty expires is to look at new exhaust.

Mine is very loud...so loud I know I am waking up angry neighbors when I cold start the car at 6am every weekend morning for my drives (!) I try and get away as fast as possible but it's very deep and loud in the wee hours. Just pointing out to OP you can change your car to sound however you want there's lots of aftermarket now for every use case.

And yes, the Dyson sounds are why people love turbo cars...the spool. the boost, the bov's...super cool. Again you can get your car to sound differently with some simple mods.

My 911 Turbo S w/ 600HP and very large twin turbos sounds like an army of Dyson's at full boost. I was able to install an aftermarket cat-back exhaust that restored a lot more of the glorious Porsche NA flat 6 sounds at lower boost levels, along with very pleasing crackling during deceleration.

I think the modern 911s sounded more like a vacuum. That's the nature of turbo charged cars.

Yes, but some more than others. The larger the turbos, the more the boost and whoosh. The Turbo S, which sits atop the 911 power lineup has the largest and twin turbos. Porsche 911 GT3s up to 2026 are naturally aspirated (no turbos), with 200 less HP than the latest Turbo S (701 HP). However, rumor has it that the new 2027 GT3 will use Porsche's new electric turbos.

My previous 997.2 Turbo with a Europipe had a wonderful turbo whistle exhaust sound - no power increase, but the best tone in my opinion. Trying to find a similar satisfying exhaust note for my Turbo SE and have the Milltek valve controller left open all the time. Now it's not even close in sound quality.

Is the obstacle the inline 4 configuration and my expectations have to be lowered?

TBH, after 2500 miles, a faster DCT and achieving a better exhaust note will make it perfect!

I watched online didnt hear this sound the test drive was v6 didnt have rhis dyson sound its weird the car at ppf shop once it comes i will record it for you

You are most likely hearing the air intake sucking in air assuming your country sits on the left to drive. It is more pronounced because the air intake is basically by your left ear. This is air intake sucking sound is a characteristic of all modern turbo charged cars. I personally like it but some people don’t.

I thought so too and you might be right but its loud as hell i never heard it in any video so could be all thee stored dust make it sound weird.

Just search for “lotus Emira turbo intake noise” in google and watch one of the videos to see if it matches what you describe

The V6 is not turbocharged. V6 is supercharged, and they don't make that noise because they are belt driven from the engine. Turbo is exhaust driven.

I did there is weird wine noises not present in the videos.

The real obstacle is going to be finding an aftermarket exhaust system. Lotus is so low volume, it's not worth aftermarket vendors developing parts like exhausts for them.

911s on the other hand have been around forever, and have a lot of aftermarket support, with at least a half dozen aftermarket exhaust manufacturers building systems for them.

It's a bit like a nespresso machine while the m139 idles, and then it sounds like a dyson supersonic hairdryer on throttle and spin down.
