Tiresome CarPlay bricking

So … coming back to the original Post CarPlay Wireless and French Toll Boothes

I’m currently on the eastern roadtrip in Normandy and yes it disconnects evrey single time at the toll booth also with the latest software updates from a week ago. But if you just go via the data cable (use usb in arm Rest) then there is no issue at all

We used an Italian Go by Telepass to drive quickly through the gates without stopping. Can highly recommend.

I am also facing the same problem with iPhone 15. Sometimes it’s really annoying because even with a phone restart it won’t come back.

Does anyone knows how to do an hard reset on the multimedia while driving? I’ve tried pushing the pause/volume knob for some seconds but didn’t solve..

May I ask why anyone having issues insists on trying wireless CarPlay? Using usb CarPlay (and never enabling wireless as an option) removes many variable, provides a more resilient and simple connection, better audio, and charges the phone. Why bother with all the downsides of wireless?

My entertainment Radio/USB/AppleCarplay totally bricks. I say hey Siri and the entertainment system becomes unresponsive. I need to stop the car, get out lock the doors. I wait a minute then it's fine. 2024 I4 summer build. Going in Sept for service, hopefully there's an update.

My Apple CarPlay has been faultless, wired or wireless. However, I’ve been in France this week and every peage station crashes the whole entertainment system when it’s in CarPlay mode. The only fix is to pull over, get out the car, lock it and then unlock/get back in/restart. Is there a fix for this?

It crashes bluetooth. I had the same with Android Auto at every peage station too but that does at least restart itself after a minute.
Didn't know it did it with wired too - not sure how that can happen as I assumed the peage station card reader was just interfering with the bluetooth signal.

No, sorry, I meant it had been flawless both wired and wireless, but when using it wireless, then the peage stations crash it.

Ah OK. There's no fix for it other than using a wired connection. It happens in all cars using bluetooth.

Amazed the French dont resolve this, it cant just be visiting Brits this effect............ As I wrote this and included the word "french", I realised how stupid a statement it really was. As if they would bother.

I wonder what would happen, if drivers started putting out a more powerful signal than than whatever is being transmitted by the Peage station?
Maybe then they'd take note

It's French. The French might take some notice if we used "Dent Bleue" for wireless but no chance otherwise.

Does any one know if there is a way to reboot the CarPlay/infotainment system without stopping and turn the car off and on again? Thanks

Hi All, I’ve read through this thread to try and understand if you can have both Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay active at the same time wirelessly on a Emira ?

If this is not possible (this is my conclusion), I assume you press the Bluetooth button on screen to toggle between the two systems ?

Also when using Apple CarPlay I assume it is not possible to make a phone call pressing the steering wheel microphone button via the vehicle inbuilt system (only possible when using the BT system that is very flakey), you need to say ‘hey siry call mum’ when pressing the microphone button on the steering wheel to make a phone call ?

Would I also be correct in stating that Lotus have not been updating the maps software when customers take their car in for a service etc ?

Not only possible but required, for both Android Auto and Carplay.
Apps using the "Hands-free" Bluetooth function get their audio routed via Bluetooth. Phone and microphone utilizing apps usually fall into this category.
The handover works seamlessly, so you don’t really have to worry about manual switching

Something is amiss here then On my Emira, I am unable to have both available; if I have Apple CarPlay on my touchscreen (say for Apple Maps, Waze) and look in the settings on my iPhone under BT Emira, it shows as not connected. If I turn on BT on the touchscreen connections (no Apple CarPlay Apps visible/available), then my iPhone settings for Emira now shows as connected, but I can now only use the inbuilt navigation system as no Apps are available?

I think you guys are discussing two different things. When Carplay is active, it consumes both the Bluetooth and WiFi connections, and you don't have a bluetooth "handsfree" connection to the car anymore. If you do have a Bluetooth connection to BT Emira, you can't have active CarPlay. They're mutually exclusive.

I use only wired CarPlay in my car, since wireless flakes out too much, and I, too, have the car "bricked" quite frequently. Nothing in the infotainment works; media selection, climate control, heated seats, whatever. The screen is non-responsive. The manual controls for hvac are still ok, though.
