Hi All,

For those of you who track, what are your favorite tires these days?

I just destroyed a set of Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2's, in OEM sizes, after 12 sessions (20-30 minutes each). I have my camber maxed out at about -2 degrees in front and rear, but it's definitely not enough for pushing the car hard.

I liked the Dunlops, they had excellent grip, but it appears they've been discontinued.

So, we have two other options in OEM sizes that are pretty aggressive:
- Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R (N0 Porsche version)
- Hoosier Track Attack Pro

Has anyone tracked these on an Emira yet?

Also, we're going to need some new A-arms in these cars to get enough camber for pushing hard at the track.

I ran the Cup 2R on my Carrera T. The grip increase compared to the Porsche Spec Cup 2 was noticeable. Also, they heated up fast and held up well. Biggest complaint was they picked up marbles like crazy on dirty tracks Also, the real wear rate was comparable to the Cup 2's (got about 85/90% of what the Cop 2's gave) which was impressive given the grip level was materially more.

I put on a set of Falken Azenis RT660+ and did a track day last weekend. I have another track next weekend. So far, I’m really enjoying them. I really want to try the Hoosier Track Attack Pro, so if you try a set, please give your impressions.

Advan A052: sticky
Advan Neova AD09: sticky and endurance (will last more than A052 but slightly less sticky)

I will move to A052 once my stock Cup2's are gone

Wait, you guys get A052 in Emira sizes in the US?
245/35R20 and 295/30R20 not available in Japan...

I tracked the car on Continental ECF tires this Saturday and I was happy with the grip and heat tolerance available. Aside from R7's (I won't be running these on the Emira), all the other tires I'm used to running are not available for the OE wheel.

It's considered an enduro 200TW tire so it's not as grippy as super 200's but it was very heat tolerant. I did 1 outlap and 10 push laps, tires started to fall off after lap 8, but it was very progressive. I took a chill lap after and they came back quickly. More apparent on the front axle with understeer.

There was a lot of traffic at my track this weekend, so I didn't do a time attack, but I shaved 3.1 secs off my PB on the F1s with what I could put in. Although, it's important to note when I set my PB on the F1's, the track temp was 87F versus 118F this weekend. I also installed the Tillet B10, so this skews the results a bit with me having loads more confidence in the car.

I only did 2 - 30mins sessions, 10 laps in each session, so I will need more HCs to assess wear as a whole.

I also did not have enough time to complete a pressure sweep test, only have temp data @ 37 & 40psi Hot.

Track: MSR Houston CW config
Alignment: Front -1.5 Camber - 0.00 Toe / Rear -1.7 Camber - 0.20 Toe In
Ambient Temp: 95F
Track Temp: 118F
Tire Pressures: Measured after a shortened cool down lap and in the paddock
Front - 37 PSI hot yielded avg 185f on the left hand tire

Rear - 37 PSI hot yielded 194f avg with the center being 16F higher than outside shoulder.

Looks to be slightly over-inflated on both ends, but I don't have enough data to make an assessment at this point. I plan to complete the pressure sweep test and bleed 2 psi at a time until 30PSI hot around for data. Will update once collected.

Feedback and feeling: I felt the car was alot more responsive and communicative vs the F1's. Steering felt sharper and more crisp. It will give you audible feedback at the limit and they were playful with alot of slip angle. I purposely got the car out of shape a few times and it was a progressive break away, easy to counter and bring back in line.

But overall, I like the tire so far. This isn't my racecar so I am not chasing ultimate lap times, just looking for heat tolerant tires with decent HC's and a good price point so I can spend some happy laps with the Emira. Trackdaytires has a discount for NASA Racing members, which made them pretty affordable out of the line up.

To be continued...

Darn, you get the RE71 in the US too?! I guess the demand is different in the various markets...

The correct pressure is another good question. I used a probe pyrometer on my tires until I found a pressure where the temperature changed linearly across the tire, that came out to about 34 psi in front and 36 in rear when hot. It similar to yours, and the center being 16F higher means your rear was a little over-inflated, maybe in the range of 1psi.

Agreed. I came to a similar conclusion. I'll continue my pressure sweep test the next time I'm back out there for more data.
