This is a repeat of a thread from 2022 but it's closed and I can't comment there.
This is different from the typical water that accumulates on the rear hatch that dumps into engine compartment and boot when you open the hatch. This issue is (rain)water trapped inside the hatch that you can hear sloshing around when I open/close it. When opening, some water dumps out where the passenger side hatch strut connects. I took a good video too. The dealer seemed to downplay the issue. The car is due for the 1 year service in a month. What's this talk about "drilling drain holes"?

Just take a small drill bit or tell the dealer to do drill 2 holes on either end near the corners so the water can drain . And not wear it will leak into trunk carpet

Thanks. I was thinking same. Maybe I'll get a couple small rubber plugs to plug the holes once drained.

It might be worth taking the tailgate striker off first to see if water drains from the fixing holes. Also maybe the corner bump stops.
Of course it does depend on exactly where the water is trapped, there may be different separate voids.

This is a very good idea and I appreciate the detail with image too! We think alike. This was the first thing I tried when it rained hard back in November. Unfortunately, the water did not drain from the mounting holes. They must not go all the way through into the void. I removed the entire striker, but no drainage. I may proceed with drilling drain holes, but am a little concerned of modifying the car when I'll take it to the dealer later this month.

If its going to the dealer anyway, I'd wait until its there and get them to sort it. Not only getting the water out, but preventing more getting in

This is my car about to have the rear screen stuck on a new tailgate.
I wonder if the water is in this void that's normally not visible behind the screen?
