Down to my very last decision which I need to decide wheel choice on nimbus grey. All 3 I’m not immediately drawn to. Black gloss had these on my last car so feel like a change and already starting to feel dated. The diamond cut there’s just something I don’t like not keen on the way the black is on the edge, would of liked these if they had continued the silver all round edge. The silver look too shiny silver. Would of liked to see a dull black not sure what you call it had it on my M4. Would of liked the silver it they were more dull. The silver on the configurator look good but on the u tube videos of the shadow grey there are brighter. Are the the silver wheels we’ll be getting ? Has anyone a photo of the actual silver wheel ? Would it take much to the change the finish on the wheels - is It called powder coated ? Would it cost much ? If not think I’m going to have to go with the black gloss. For example could I change the gloss to finish in photo below ?

I'm not a huge fan of gloss black wheels, and same as you, I think the diamond cuts would have looked better with a continuous cut rim. I'm going silver, withe the intent to powder coat later if I want to change the look. Typically looking at about 120 to 150 quid per wheel, if that helps.

I'd suggest painting vs powdercoating... the heat in powdercoating can weaken a wheel. Might not be an issue for street use, but IMO doesn't make sense to do it.

the diamond wheels are much more silver than the configurator shows, but offer a less bright view. I vote for them. Silver regular is fine though. I dislike the black on there. I dislike black on a lot of things though unless it's orange or bright green, yellow. The standard silver though would still look nice. I just think the diamond cut in recent photos looks the least obtrusive.

Interesting... I had not come across this info before now. From what I gather after a quick google, this advice is specific to forged wheels, right?
Cheers for the tip... Going to research further, but can see why it might be better to stick to painting.

I think even cast is at risk, but whether it's a significant risk is beyond my knowledge. just one of those things that IMO is not worth the risk since failure of a wheel could be deadly and painting is a simple and still cost effective solution.

20" wheels should always be Forged. a 17" wheel, eh, with a lot of tire, eh. 18" even with a chunk of tire ok, but 20" are really low profile and all sorts of heinous death things happen if you hit something.

I don't think I'd go that far these days, lots of 19 and 20 " cast wheels are oem at this point and are unlikely to fail and the aftermarket options aren't bad either... but to make them weaker by by powdercoating isn't smart IMO.

One other option is to float a decal on the wheel. This allows you to change the wheel to any color or pattern that’s available. I’ve seen the look of carbon fiber applied over black wheels as an example. I’ve even seen snake skin pattern over silver wheels. The appearance you get can be influenced by the color of the wheel underneath.

If you are going to go with one of the stock wheels, I would choose silver. Black has been done so much over the last several years I’m just growing weary of it. It’s like the wheels aren’t even there. Something that matches the flash of the Emira design seems most appropriate. The silver just elevates every color to a new place IMHO. The only situation in which I would maybe be with a black car and going for the blackout look. Otherwise it’s silver all the way for me.

unlikely yes, but eh. I mean some of the "flow formed" ones are pretty nice. I still would not do anything aside from forged on this car though. Porsche 718 is all forged even 18"'s.

The wheels on the Shadow Grey car are the base spec wheels, so not the same design or finish as the silver option on the First Edition.

Based on what you’ve said, it probably makes sense to get the silver option. Then if you don’t like them they’re easy to get recoloured, either painted or coated. About £70-£100 per wheel.

The wheels in your picture look like a matte anthracite, which is easy for a wheel specialist to do.

I agree the best look is the rim silver all the way around. This is what it would look like if you got the diamond cut wheel, and had the sections on the outer rim done to match the diamond cut sections.

Love that pearl white with the black roof.
I hope Lotus offers it in that color later on.

Ah I’m glad you’ve pointed that out because it was FE I just assumed these were the silver wheels. They don’t look very premium. So how would you describe the finish ? However I’m going to go silver purely had black gloss for 3 years and think it’s done it day, fancy a change. They did look good and they don’t need much cleaning. I like this finish which was the other finish on the R8. I’m also maybe thinking too much contrast black again the light colour 🤔

This is my plan. Such a shame its not bang on straight from factory... They were close IMO.
Would someone be able to that ? and would you not be able to tell - how do they do it paint that section. That wheel looks so much better like that, that’s how it should of been.

Tbh, I've no idea if/how they do it.but If it can't be done then I'll live with them as they are.

Unfortunately I've not seen pictures yet of the actual FE wheels apart from the diamond cut ones (you may see some from a car in Shanghai but they're not production wheels and the wrong finish).

We've got these renders for the base ("design") and First Edition ("forged V-spoke") wheels in silver, which show the FE ones as slightly less glossy and more pearlescent:

That other R8 wheel option looks like a diamond cut surface on a grey/anthracite base, so the Emira diamond cut wheels will look very similar - a slightly darker base colour. We do know what those look like in real life:

Aww was wanting to go silver but when you look at the 570 which we are thinking is a similar colour car to the nimbus I am thinking the black wheels just goes best against this colour….
