Is it reasonable to ask for a complimentary oil change?

I’m interested in a 2026 model which has been sitting at a dealership since April of this year. Would it be unreasonable if I asked them for a complimentary oil change as a part of the deal? I know it’s been only 6 months so not sure if it’s okay to ask the dealership for that.

With just factory mileage? I think you don’t need to worry about the oil.

It's America you can ask for anything you want and if you want fresh oil ask for fresh oil, there's no functional reason it's necessary but again it's your money you should ask for what will make the purchase better for you

Why not ask the dealership themselves? They would know better than us - and it will give you a good idea of how helpful and accommodating they are with their customers. If you aren't happy with the answer to such a simple request whether yes or no - then maybe you should use another dealership.

Unfortunately, I had a poor experience when asking ny dealer for the initial oil change at 1500 kms. They growled and moaned about not needing to do that change, despite the fact that I was supplying the oil and paying for the service. Reluctantly they took it in and told ne all done. When doing service two, myself, I discovered they actually had not even undone the engine sump bung at all.
Sadly, the dumb AMG design of having no physical dip stick means there is no way of seeing the colour of the oil, old or new.
Needless to say, that (or any other dealership) do not get my custom.
With the foregoing in mind, perhaps you either could watch the change take place, or ask for the second service to be provided complimentary. You could always get the first service done at another service centre, one who will actually undo the engine bung and drain out/refresh the oil.

Wow. That seems utterly bizarre to me.

I asked my dealer to do an oil and filter change on my V6 at re 1500km which they were quite happy to do.
I paid for it of course.
And I now have documented written “proof” that it was done (even though I didn’t watch it happen).

I can’t imagine how or why any reputable dealer would not actually do what they are prepared to put in writing that they “did”.

Particularly bearing in mind that at least where I am in Oz Lotus is the “cheapest” brand they actually deal with.

Why would a dealer that sells million $ cars risk their reputation for the sake of a cheap oil change?

For those who still believe in physics, an oil change this early is completely pointless. But yeah I get the sentiment of wanting your new baby properly cared for ;)

If you close by, Why not just ask for complimentary oil changes for 2 or 3 years? I mean you are spending lots of $ on a car

Bizarre doesn’t even cut it, Steve24. Probably the v6 Toyota has a dipstick, and it is a simple check to see the colour of the oil after a change, not so the i2. While I had and still have, no intention of taking my car (AMG 2.0 T) back to them (here in AUS) on inquiring, they quoted $980.00 AUD for service 2!. I did the same service using top class oil , new genuine oil and air filter (from Mercedes) for the princely sum of $350 all up.
While not having the tiny Lotus silver ‘signature’ for completed work, fortunately I carried out service two at my mate’s engineering workshop. He observed and signed the work off as being complete and correct.
