Fyi...

Spoke with lotus engineering and there's a dct software update waiting for release. Its the current version in the 26 car. Lotus is trying to figure who will pay for it, the customer as an update or Lotus as a retro fit. Im told within next couple of months. I doubt we get notice from Lotus on this one so Ill post back when I know.

I thought all software updates were free whilst in Warranty. After the warranty expires, enhancement updates would cost, "required" updates would remain free
Are Lotus changing their minds on this too ala the Paint warranty

Also, I thought they'd addressed the early issues with D-N-R shifts and also paddle shift responsiveness. I wonder if this is something on top of that or just catching up with what's already available in the UK?

Having to pay for "software enhancements" would be taking the p*ss rather, given all the problems everyone is still having with the cars.

are you refering to the transmission update everyone is waiting for or is this something new?

Mercedes is releasing this update for several of the cars that use the M139 and last conversation I had with tech at local Lotus was the hold up was Mercedes finalizing software across those vehicles and then handing to Lotus to distribute - similar time frame was given something around 2 months or sooner

Whatever updates were made to the 26 model is the one ready to be distributed. It was suppose to be an August release per lotus but delayed due to cost liability - that's the way is was explained to me.

As far as my dealer? They were clueless or at least acted that way, that a new software update was coming.

I'm still in break-in mileage and so haven't been able to really evaluate the shifts yet. Are there certain things that need to be addressed with a fix aside from the double tap to select drive or reverse? I haven't noticed anything terribly jarring about the transmission yet, but only have a few hundred miles so far (July 24 build, Aug 25 purchase).

Speed-wise they have already improved the speed of upshifts, thought I would like it crisper and the downshifts are still a bit laggy.
Mostly I think the updates are for smoothness and drivability in low speed 1 or 2nd gear situations where the clutch seems to disengage and then re-engage in an abrupt manner. Try going into manual mode and drive slowly in 1st gear, say 7-8mph. Let off the throttle and coast a bit, then reapply throttle. Sometimes you feel a very jerky sudden clutch engagement and the car will lurch forward a bit. Also happens in certain deceleration from 2nd to 1st, getting off throttle then reapplying throttle.

Thanks for the context. Definitely felt that low speed jerkiness when I California rolled a right turn. Seemed like the shift logic got confused for a second, but I assumed that was part of the "character" of the car. Glad to hear it's something that can get smoothed out.

I know the functions and operations have been reported incorrectly. From neutral you dont need double taping into drive nor be on the brakes. I can even do it from the paddles.

I guess I should have been more clear as I meant from going to drive into reverse or when in park. I believe that requires a double tap that effectively goes through neutral and a brief pause between the taps is needed to register neutral then drive/reverse. It's that timing between taps that I'm hoping gets ironed out as I'm rarely just in neutral.

If I'm mistaken or there is a better way to do it, it would be great to learn!

My last update cleaned up the gear selection dance and shift speed. Im pretty much good as is but will welcome any improvement.....barring just a few quality niggles, this car with jb4 is approaching driving perfection imo. I never expected to put so many miles on it but can't keep myself out of it!
