GRP Short Shift Kit

I used Aerie short shifter as well, had dealer install it. Ended up with one part that's not used. Apparently its optional per installation instructions by Aerie.
Love the feeling now. Shifting is quick and precise

Thanks for the confirmation.

I like the product and seems to be good quality. Sad their customer service/response hasn’t been existent for me.

I’ve been debating which to consider and this is a bummer to hear.

Ever since I got the Emira, one of my peeves has been with the shifter feel. I had previously test-driven the press vehicles that Lotus brought over and toured through the country, and I do recall the press cars also feeling as if they just slightly missed the mark. Though I brushed it off at the time, thinking that it was probably due to the fact that so many people test drive those cars, and were probably woefully used by folks that weren’t all that great at driving manuals. Coming from a highly modified supercharged Exige with one of the best shifter kits and adjustable cables that money can buy for the platform, my Emira simply felt lacking; especially for such an expensive new car.
So I decided to give the GRP short throw shifter kit a try. I just finished installing it myself in my own garage with minimal tools. Took me about 45 minutes or so, and I immediately went out for a test drive thereafter. For about $100, this little reinforcement device not only reduced the shifter throw, but also helped improve the directness of shifts into each gate. It now feels closer to that of a Honda S2K for those that have driven those before. Their shifter feel is like a benchmark among enthusiast sports cars, and there are often attempts to mimick the feel of the S2K shifter.
According to GRP website description for the product, this kit can shorten the shifter throw by between 45% and 60%. I left it at the 45% adjustment mark and feel like it's perfect for me. For those that are on the fence, I highly recommend getting a kit through GRP!
Thanks Greg Thiessen for the fast shipping on this kit (along with some other goodies
😎
)!
Edit: One other thing that bothered me with my Emira from the factory was that sometimes it has trouble going into Reverse gear. So far, with this GRP shifter reinforcer, I am finding Reverse much easier. I will be doing further testing to see how it performs as time goes on, but so far I'm extremely satisfied with the outcome, for only $100!

i bought and installed the GRP short shifter, it did help, HOWEVER after 1700 miles on the emira, the transmission had shifting problems, i took it to the dealer, they say there is metal in the transmission fluid and it needs a NEW transmission at $25,000 NOT COVERED due to the short shifter be careful with the short shifter from GRP

That’s insane that they would blame it on the short shifter when the metal shavings which caused transmission failure was an INTERNAL thing; whereas short shifter is purely external. But I suppose can never be too surprised by Lotus 🙄😒 trying to get out of any an all costs post-sales. Typical.

This is 100% correct, the short shifter cannot cause internal issues, it is purely external and only changes the fulcrum point on the bell crank to shorten the throw, it does NOTHING internally.
If this is the same person whom Ive talked to at length now numerous times about this, it is a shift fork pad failure which isnt and cant be caused by a short shifter. I even had the same exact failure in our shop 3-eleven (same trans and engine) totally stock (before we ever came out with a short shifter). Its a known failure that can happen on a totally stock car driven on the street or track. There has been a number of Evora's its happened to over the years.

That’s pretty disappointing for Lotus to take that stance. I guess priorities change when you’re losing over 40 million a month though. Hopefully an investor is willing to take a chance on them or support is likely going to get real shaky for all of us.

wow, that's crazy that lotus would blame the short shifter for that....
but still, since i don't understand the exact failure mechanism...is there things that we should not do , when shifting the emira ....so that we don't have the same issue in the future ? is this something that can happen no matter whether we are operating the shifter correctly or not ?!? please advise,

james R

btw, different thread but...i brought he car to OC so calif lotus for latest ecu update, etc and the car still went into limp mode (4k rpm limit) on the way home.... uggh.... then it went out.... i will try to read the code again , if it's still stored in there but.... how can i take this to the track if it still does that.... #British Electronics !!!

what were your symptoms during the 1700 miles, when shifting ?

I would request a written explanation of how the short shift kit caused that failure. Maybe they could also explain to you in person where and how it supposedly caused a transmission failure. I would probably record their explanation too.

I think I would then take it to a different dealership and talk to a different service manager. Let them diagnose the issue and give an unbiased opinion.

I’m sure you’ve already thought through all of this, so sorry for the unsolicited advice! Situations like this make me very angry for fellow car enthusiasts!

It’s situations like this that have kept me from modifying car, and will keep me from doing so until the warranty is out. I am fearful of getting a knee-jerk reaction to a modification if I have any issues with the car, and then warranty denial. Should be that way, but it seems like it is often the case.

That’s insanely frustrating! I hope you can find a different service department that can help you out and use their brain to investigate what the ACTUAL issue with the transmission is!
