Going beyond 7k RPM: A Thread

Yeah. I don’t shift by shift light. I shift by engine feel and engine sound. And the v6 pulls even harder those last 500rpm so it fools me into staying in throttle too long and I end up banging against that limiter.

I bet if you raised the limiter the engine wouldn’t nose over till around 7200.

It’s like they left the same cams installed that were for the Evora and just imposed a shorter redline.

Yea I have a JUBU tune with the 7200 rpm and it’s perfect! Stock always felt jt cut short and it definitely has more pull upper rpm’s. I’ve yet to hit the limiter with the 7200 set up. I think that’s perfect and safe increase. You can go higher but would require new parts and lots of labor cost I think 10-12 hour job.

I have the JUBU 440 so it increases power no need for the JB4. I’m going with the 460 kit soon with JUBU.

JB4 wasn’t an option when I decide to increase power and RPM. Will be interesting to see that. I will be doing dyno with the 460 kit and will post updates on the JUBU forum I have.

This car blew the engine with a Jubu 460 kit.

The car has been sent to Jubu in Austria and they did the replacement at their own fees.

I know this car has been tracked pretty seriously so that means if you raise the power and beat the crap out of it wont last long.

We all know the Toyota powertrain is not as bullet proof as we would like to.

JUBU uses an aftermarket ECU that is not compatible with the JB4 piggyback module. They adjust more parameters including RPM limit but at a substantially higher cost.

Yep and still locked down. According to them, only 2 maps are user adjustable....fuel and ignition.....

Pay standalone pricing and configuration, just to be locked down by someone else. You'd be at their mercy for additional tuning.

TLDR on 2GR limitations and rpm.

• You can run 7,300 all day long on oem everything.
• It is recommended to be running valve springs above 7,300.
• Running 7,800 regularly will break your rods. MWR's rods are up charged Brian Crower rods BC6364 and BC6365. These are the cheapest reliable option on the market direct from BC.
• 2UR Titanium valves fit the 2GR. Part number: 13711-38050 for the intake side. Do not run Ti valves in a boosted application on the exhaust side. Again MWR's listed Ti valves are upcharged OEM parts.
• Titanium retainers are major wear items and not recommended.
• Kelford beehive springs are way too high of pressure, avoid.
• The Supertech dual springs required machining the head per Marc (FMW).

For what it's worth my 8,000-8,500 RPM Evora build is using FMW springs and cams (Marc removed OP's original links as he has changed supplier/springs, I know the new source and this is part of why I went with this option), JUBU Rods and pistons.

I wished there could a simple software tune that unlocks the 7200 redline. The JUBU ECU replacement is too expensive.

It would be awesome if Lotus offered an ECU upgrade for this since Evora had 7200 redline. Even if it was just in track mode.

MWR is a good alternative to Jubu for a built 2GR short block (and ported heads ready for high rpm use) at reasonable price. Their sleeved blocks have the option of a larger bore, taking the motor to 3.7 liters. That makes sense if you're going with lower compression forged pistons to optimize boost anyway and want more torque in the lower end of the power band. If anything happens to my motor, that's likely the direction that I would go.
