I'm always a tiny bit traumatised by the idea of my car being disassembled to this extent for just a clutch change, so you've definitely got the right idea by just doing as much as you can in one go 😅

When you look at it, you realize how stupid Lotus engineers are for this design. Porsche engine/transmission comes out so easily; doesn't require a body shop professional for removal & installation.

I don’t think lotus engineers were engineering too much on the rear subframe. Just something that fits the design dimensions and can hold the specified engine/transmission in the orientation it needed to be in. 😁

Let's do a poll...

1 Mechanic put's it all back together perfectly and everything works 100% on time
2 Check engine lights persist and things get delayed and delayed
3 Everything seemingly works fine until I take it out to the mountains and end up a chalk line on the side of a canyon
4 I'm stuck with a $150,000 life-size replica model car

Emira just went into the shop Monday morning. Here is the list of what's going in... The full mod list is in my signature. Pretty sure I'm done after this.

ENGINE: Aerie Motorsports Header / Valvetronic Titanium Exhaust / JB4 Tuner / JUBU Cooling Upgrade 2GR / JUBU Cooling Hose Upgrade Kit / JUBU Pulley Upgrade Kit / JUBU Aluminum Alternator Pulley

TRANSMISSION: XClutch Stage 1 / JUBU Torque Insulator Upgrade Kit

SUSPENSION, BRAKES, WHEELS: Nitron R1 Fast Road Coilovers

MISC.: JUBU Ventilation Kit / Lotus Baffled Oil Pan / JUBU Aluminum Flaps

Notables:

1. Yes, that's right, I'm going JB4 with OBD2 connected. I like the continuous monitoring and adjustments. I'm pretty sure it will be enough for me, especially with full bolt-ons and JUBU cooling.

2. For exhaust, going titanium with JUBU ventilation kit.

3. I decided to go engine out for the clutch upgrade and easier motor mount installation. The Emira really needs those motor mounts..

4. Switching from GRP lowering kit to the Nitron R1 Fast Road Coilovers. My axel boots were leaking. Not gonna point fingers or investigate. Don't have the time for it. Could be the installation, the sleeves, Lotus, a combination... don't care enough to try. Shop is rebuilding boots and I'll have to bring it back just for the coilovers as building and shipping will take a month on those.

Once everything is done.. about a week for everything but the coilovers, I'll post a review.
Sound amazing. How much in total and how long average will take the whole upgrade? Send us the numbers for gain Hp and torque once complete.

I did the whole thing in 2 phases:

The 1st phase was suspension, new tires, brakes, 1st oil change and some misc like shift knob, shift boot delete, steering wheel, valve controller etc.

The current 2nd phase is more engine related but also with misc like oil pan, 2nd oil change at 10,000 miles, heat resistant materials, changing from sleeves to coilovers, etc.

The car spent roughly 1.5 weeks to 2 weeks for each phase in a shop, judging from the ETA since I haven't gotten my car back yet.

I spent like $9000 on full PPF and full ceramic. I know this is quite high but it was from a very highly regarded PPF shop and done through the dealership. I could have went direct to the same shop for a bit cheaper but I wanted the added layer of protection by going through the dealership because I have had bad experiences with PPF jobs in the past and I knew the PPF shop would take extra care with it to protect its relationship with the dealer. It's the only dealer in the state that sells luxury high performance sports cars and they obviously get quite a bit of work orders from them. The PPF job has turned out to be outstanding thus far..

I spent about $7500 on the audio including 3d printed parts, speakers, amps and installation. Was it worth it? For me it was, although the tuning is currently a little off and I need to find someone who can tune the sound. My setup requires an audio tune just to run it.

Phase 1 and phase 2 are probably gonna total to about $30,000 to $40,000 including installation, new tires and brakes, and two oil changes. This is really rough napkin math. I have no interest in actually going through the numbers unless I'm about to sell the car which I don't plan on doing... ever.

I would say $50,000 is a more accurate reflection, than the previously stated $40,000, of what has gone into the car. That's quite a bit of money and sure I made some mistakes along the way. It is what it is. My thing is... you live life once. No regrets man. You live and you learn.

The above being said, I want to make something clear. There is currently a really really good argument for being income-producing asset heavy or cash heavy.

The argument for being income-producing asset heavy is that we are going to see unprecedented increases in asset values over the next 10 years due to fiscal mismanagement and money printing and there are going to be really good returns there. So, money spent on cars and things car related are coming at a heavy opportunity cost and so it's not the wisest thing to do to spend on cars that are generally-speaking... depreciating assets.

Kind of the opposite of that argument is that you should be cash heavy so that when the crash comes.. and make no mistake about it.. we are definitely in a bubble(somewhat mitigated by inflation), you should have plenty of cash to acquire assets for great prices when things come down.

I don't have a crystal ball but I have been diversifying into investments. I would definitely be in a much better position had I not bought this car and put so much into it. But sometimes in life, you make mistakes by accident and sometimes you make mistakes on purpose. When you make mistakes on purpose.. you gotta see it to the end to really give yourself a learning lesson. Hopefully, at the end of that learning lesson, you have something of value. I know people that have dropped well into the six figures gambling at casinos with nothing to show for it. That's not the best of excuses.. but again sometimes in life it's about the experience and learning which can come at a cost.

Man I wanna follow this thread but it is so hard to read. @sbproducer any chance you can shorten your signature? lol
