Emira V6 Racechip now out

I believe they build to order hence the lead time but I may be ill informed about that

Yes 7-10 days. I ordered last night and got email this morning with lead time.
I think you will be impressed for the money. I accept there has been a lot of opinions expressed, and everyone has an opinion of course but I am really happy with it and would certainly recommend to anyone as being a good option to enliven an already great car

Looking forward to getting it Ian.
Doubt will be here for trip on NC500 in 10 days but fingers crossed.

For anyone installing one of these. It take about 200tp300 kilometers/miles for it to really come alive. I don’t remember reading this in the instructions but everyone that has one says so. You are suppose to drive it around initially on map 5, but I just put it into “race” and it’s been there ever since. And still till today, it pulls like a..( you fill in here what ever works for you).

That’s good to know thanks Dave

putting any potential engine issues aside, what about the clutch? I believe a new clutch can run into double figures as I think its an engine out job. This seems to increase the torque a fair whack, are we happy the clutch (assuming an already "healthy" clutch) can cope?

Honest answer is I have no clue, but I would suggest if you have any concerns at all about fitting something like this I probably wouldn’t bother and stick with the stock option. A new clutch is circa £5000 as you state so you have to factor that in I guess.

I don’t think clutch’s are a real in these cars. I does depend on your driving style. If you love full powered traffic light takeoffs. Then power upgrade or not, your clutch will wear. I haven’t heard much about any real clutch issue in any of the Emira forums so far. Heard about a guy bitching about it on utube, and another on who admitted he loved dropping his clutch to test his zero to 60 on his draggy. So surprises there.
Pair issue. Heard plenty of those.

Anyone else installed one lately?

Deciding between the JB4 and Racechip! UK based so racechip is slightly easier to get.

The biggest difference is how they work. RaceChip is primarily a sensor-based piggyback that modifies signals going to the ECU (typically boost and related sensors) to increase performance. The JB4 also intercepts sensor signals, but it additionally communicates with the car’s CAN bus, so it can read far more engine data in real time (timing, fuel trims, temperatures, etc.) and make more intelligent adjustments. That also gives you features like data logging, fault code reading/clearing, map switching, custom tuning, ethanol support and additional safety strategies. They’re both piggybacks, but the JB4 is a much more sophisticated engine management system rather than just a signal modifier.

I had jb4 on my v6 emira and now on my g82 m4

> but it additionally communicates with the car’s CAN bus
It doesn't. (long story short)

The boost control still comes from manipulating sensor signals, but the JB4 also uses the CAN bus (via its OBD/CAN connection on supported cars) to read engine data and enable features such as logging, map switching and other functions. So saying it “doesn’t communicate with the CAN bus” isn’t accurate in that configuration.

there is no easy way to pass a cable from jb4 module to obd port; requires drilling.
Jb4 is fully functional wrt performance without connection to can bus.
Map switching doesnt need CAN.
So yeah, it can communicate with CAN, provide some convenience functions, but its is not required for performance and will not provide any performance benefit.

That is correct. I found no diff with the CBus plugged in or not. Unless you are A real techie and like loooking at graphs and numbers, it doesn’t change the performance. I still have the JB4 and RaceChip sitting next to each other in the back of the Emira. Switching from one to the other shows that they both work a lot better that having them switched off. I can’t believe that lotus released this car in the form they did without one of these in it. This was further demonstrated to me when I drove the dealer car while my Emira was getting serviced. What an impotent bucket of sh#t it felt like without a tune. The YouTube reviews were very kind to lotus in this count. Anyway. U can’t go wrong with either. The JB4 crowd are real pros. Their customer service is second to none. The RC bunch have been around for sometime now, and also have good customer follow up from what I found. Take it from one who plugs from one to the other-they both excellent, but deliver their performance quite differently.
