So, I was reviewing some information on the NTHSB site as I have brought my Emira into the dealer for some updates and just wanted to check if there was anything there, I should inquire about be done, which there really wasn't.

I did find the document below that Lotus had created that explained the software update that needed to be done in order to meet CARB approval back in the day. I began thinking, why couldn't we either find a way to remove this update or inquire with Lotus about removing it once the new law is finalized. I do realize a response form Lotus may be a longshot but maybe if enough people got behind this, they may consider it. I don't think we really know exactly what this update did, but I think the general consensus has been that it could not be a positive change to the code.

As an aside when I brought my car into the dealer I inquired about having them change the coding on the car to allow the window roll up/down with the key fob and the dealer said they are locked out of making coding changes. I'm not sure I'm buying that, but maybe.

In my experience dealers usually don’t have access to this. You need a guy that can get in there and basically unlock several non-US features

I don't understand, why do you want to revert back to an older version of the ECM software. What do you expect to get out of it?

I'm not a climate emissions weenie but unless there's some sort of tangible benefit I'm not going to flash out something theoretically stopping pollution. Is there a noticeable difference in how the UK versions drive over the US spec? I just don't think this would prove worth it. Not to mention as stated above that this would likely flash away a lot of bug fixes.

Obviously, it would be nice to know what was added/changed to the software to make the Emira Carb compliant. My thought was, it would just be good to have the software as it was designed originally. To do this properly, I'm sure it would require that Lotus make the changes and have them support the software update. Again, it would be nice to have some clarity on what was changed and why.

Absolutely no chance that's going to happen. Even if CARB is no longer valid, EPA regulations are still active. The cost of recertification, and possible violation issues would not be worth it.
