Dash/Chassis Creaking Sounds (Fixed by Galpin dealer tech)

Made a short video on my creaking to see how it compares to others who have also experienced creaking to see if mine is similar.

That sounds like a plastic creak to me. I think yours is an interior piece.

That’s my thoughts though everything I touch doesn’t stop it so I am assuming it maybe deeper inside the dash. Either way it’s heading into the dealers soon to hopefully get sorted.

One remaining category of creaks in my car still sounds like plastic creaking on each other. My tech, through the help of another tech in Jersey located the sound from the steering bracket and these threaded inserts, by using chassis ears.

They are to be replaced with these instead to resolve the noises (which were confirmed by the Jersey tech to work).

Those are going in on my next visit...there is a new rear light harness bulletin (this would be the 2nd one that replaced the original harness update) so when he gets those in stock he'll swap out those fittings.

The other categories of sounds are all gone as my original post explained -

Had subframe and steering bracket threaded inserts replaced. Was quiet for about a week. Now a light tapping (Morse code) on some bumps.....not bringing it back

Could you elaborate on where exactly these parts are located on the steering rack? Also, not really following how the star washers fit into this and how they will help?

you're asking the same questions I have lol...I wasn't there when the car was apart just relaying the info my tech gave me

Anyone heard of the scuttle panel causing the creaking?

Im my case I could replicate the sound by taking off the window airbag surrounds. Underneath that you can see the composite material around the tweeter area. When trying to move this I could make the sound. I tried spraying some penetrating oil in around that area which did not work. I think it was the area where that material is bonded and riveted to the aluminium worked for me which can be seen by taking off the plastic panels off at the side of the dash when the doors are open. There's probably a better spray type for this. My sound was exactly as in the videos, constant small creaking/ticking when moving. It sounded like it was coming from somewhere in the footwell area or front chassis.

I when and removed that panel on the left hand side, there’s just a blank plastic panel behind this with a few screws and the left and behind it there’s those rivets. Do you mean spray all of this including the rivets or just the rivets?

Look more to the left at the top of your image (Look towards the outside of the car from inside) where the composite is riveted and bonded the aluminium.

Car currently in with dealer, they had the car out and heard how constant the noise is so hopefully they will get to the bottom of it.

Dropped off the car this morning at Galpin. David (who's been named in this thread before) will be the tech who will be performing the following:

- Inspect power steering pump that is producing groaning noises when turning wheels close to full lock when temperatures are hot.

- Diagnose the front chassis creaking (old boat creaking noise) when turning steering wheel. David has solved this in the past by lubricating underbody components vs having to replace steering rack which doesn't solve it.

- Two software updates...one major one and one minor one. Hopefully this solves this master volume issue.

Will report back sometime next week when I get the car back.

This is definitely not the car for the ocd crowd. Had my car apart 2x hunting creaks and the such....over 60 days total. Car still making noise just in different places.....turn up the radio and focus on the drive imo.

Yes, Galpin Land Rover/Lotus/Aston is amazing with customer service. I tell folks that if they want to buy a Lotus or Aston, that's place to buy from. They treat you right. I just asked for an Uber ride back since I have plenty of other cars to drive, yet they still gave me a brand new Range Rover to drive until I pick up my car.

We'll see what they come back to me with next week.

When I lived in the Valley (many years ago) I always hated going to that area for service (Roscoe), but after moving further south and hearing great things from Galpin, I wish I had that level of service.

My dash area creaks and squeaks when turning the wheel while slow or stationary. Dealer answer: Nothing wrong. Recommendation: don't turn the steering wheel when not in motion . Doesn't really bother me as all I hear is the engine, but had to bring it in for service so figured I'd ask them to check it out...

I did mention that I thought the sound was coming from behind the dash so not doubt they will check this too. They are also saying that rattles and creaks aren’t covered by Lotus so will possibly need to charge if they don’t find a damaged part that needs replacing. I thought this unusual as it’s under warranty and with previous brands that have had rattles it was all covered.

Where exactly are these picture on the car, is this beneath the carpet in the footwell?

The first picture is definitely the driver side upper A-arm.

Not sure about the 2nd.

I believe most warranties will cover rattles and the such for 12month/12k. My dealership took care of some issues past that time frame. Unfortunately with these cars youre playing whack a mole with these noises.
