Hi Lotus collective, looking to the hive mind

I`ve settled on a 2.0 version, i know i know but i need an auto and prefer the box of the 2.0.

Question is, as i`ve not started many, do they all sound a bit like a bag of bolts for 5 seconds on cold start up? I`ve a golf R and it`s a smooth and quiet start with no real drama, the Lotus was a bit noisy (not in an overally bad way, kind of like my old 996) before it settled down. Drove fine.

Appreciate any responses :)

I can only talk about the V6 but don't forget that engine is much closer to your ears and with less dampening between you as well.

Yes my i4 is noisier than most 4 cylinder cars I've had on initial start up. As Nick Stick says, the engine is right behind your ears with little soundproofing! However, I wouldn't say it sound like a bag of bolts and it's fine after it settles down from cold start after a couple of minutes. If your not happy with the noise. I'm sure some sound deadening would improve it on the panel behind but for me its not an issue. You will love the car and I came from a V8 previously!

Once broken in do a few WOT in track mode....you'll forget about start up!

As ever, thanks for the quick replies and confirmation it is as it should be. I don`t mind it at all but took me by surprise

I come from someone who put a deposit down on week 2 for a 2.0 and had a side visit to the factory courtsey of Scott to see if i fitted in a pre production model, which i did :)

The pricing, delays and uncertainty had me pick up a F-Type SVR for the last 2 years.

I`ve always said i`d be back in a Lotus and i`ve dropped a deposit on one today.

I`ll miss the Jag noise but it`s time to go back to a drivers car against a GT car.

I started a thread recently about some not-so-pleasant sound effects I’d noticed when driving my I4. I’ve come to the conclusion it’s just mechanical noise as a result of the engine etc. being right behind your head, as per the replies above.
