Found a digital service manual in my car

Hi folks,

After receiving my car from the dealer and checking everything, I found a mysterious QR code in the handbook folder. After scanning the link, I discovered a digital copy of the service manual, issued July 25.

As far as I can tell, there is no authentication, no ads, no paywall, and no trackers on the site. It seems Lotus may be taking right-to-repair more seriously lately.

Sadly, the QR code sticker was eaten by my pet lizard, but I was able to save the link.

You can find the service manual at https://everything-emira.com.

Who knows, maybe they will add more content, search functionality, and a more mobile-friendly version in the future?

Emira vs McLaren 570S

I recently moved from a McLaren 720S to Emira. I can give you a perspective.

But first of all, let me start by saying McLaren 570S is known to have a noticeable turbo lag. I suggest you consider this very carefully in case you're leaning to get the 570S.

McLaren 720S is absolutely a fantastic car, handling and suspension second to none. Fast as hell. I owned it for about two years but then I started to feel this car is just too much for the road. Sure I got a rush for acceleration, but that just wears out quickly. It felt like the car needed more than street roads to give me the driving pleasure I needed.
After a while I started driving it less and then for a McLaren you're advised to maintain expensive warranty. Insurance and registration is just at least double the Emira. I started to miss shifting gears.

My previous cars were Subaru BRZ, 718 Cayman, 718 Spyder, R8. Whenever a car became automatic, I couldn't stand it after a year. With Porsche (both manual) I started to get bored because the damn 2nd gear was just so tall that the car might as well had 2 gears.

So this whole journey brought me to one final decision: to get the Emira. Why?
1. The closest steering and suspension enjoyment there is to McLaren 720S with a third of the money
2. Not too fast, I can feel I'm doing something with the car before hitting the speed limit
3. Fantastic manual gearbox feel (to me)
4. The gearing is short enough that I find myself playing with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th very frequently
5. Supercharger sounds fantastic. Cat delete will undoubtably make the car sound even better (I yet need to do this)
6. The car is much much cheaper to maintain and to mod due to the core that is the Toyota engine. (in my opinion this is a blessing about this car)

I would personally after my car journey think everything has led me to Emira as the right balance I'm looking for. Is it perfect? No, can it be made perfect? Almost yes! with a few mods the car can become 5% more punchy and it'd become the perfect car in my book.

Hope this helps!

Was great to see this in person today. Seeing this hatch in motion is awesome, it really breaks up the upper rear of the car and gives tons of character. Extremely high build quality, quite beefy, big thumbs up for a very well made hatch.

Engine out! Officially done after this...

Emira just went into the shop Monday morning. Here is the list of what's going in... The full mod list is in my signature. Pretty sure I'm done after this.

ENGINE: Aerie Motorsports Header / Valvetronic Titanium Exhaust / JB4 Tuner / JUBU Cooling Upgrade 2GR / JUBU Cooling Hose Upgrade Kit / JUBU Pulley Upgrade Kit / JUBU Aluminum Alternator Pulley

TRANSMISSION: XClutch Stage 1 / JUBU Torque Insulator Upgrade Kit

SUSPENSION, BRAKES, WHEELS: Nitron R1 Fast Road Coilovers

MISC.: JUBU Ventilation Kit / Lotus Baffled Oil Pan / JUBU Aluminum Flaps

Notables:

1. Yes, that's right, I'm going JB4 with OBD2 connected. I like the continuous monitoring and adjustments. I'm pretty sure it will be enough for me, especially with full bolt-ons and JUBU cooling.

2. For exhaust, going titanium with JUBU ventilation kit.

3. I decided to go engine out for the clutch upgrade and easier motor mount installation. The Emira really needs those motor mounts..

4. Switching from GRP lowering kit to the Nitron R1 Fast Road Coilovers. My axel boots were leaking. Not gonna point fingers or investigate. Don't have the time for it. Could be the installation, the sleeves, Lotus, a combination... don't care enough to try. Shop is rebuilding boots and I'll have to bring it back just for the coilovers as building and shipping will take a month on those.

Once everything is done.. about a week for everything but the coilovers, I'll post a review.

New one near Toronto

Not quite in Toronto. In a small city just to the north. This will be a bit long since some people like to know the buying experience. I originally had a deposit on one, but then after waiting and hearing nothing from Lotus, got a refund and moved on. Recently decided it was time to get one.

I wasn't too fussy on colour or interior. I wasn't sure about alcantara since some of the interiors I've seen (after a few years) look like crap, especially the steering wheel. Then I watched some videos on how you take care of it and clean it, and thought it would actually be good.

The one "must have" was the Touring suspension, and that was the issue. There are many cars for sale, used and new, and all of them had the Sport suspension. Some reviews say the Sport isn't too bad, but the ones driving on not so great roads say the Touring is a must. Oh, the other must have was manual, so that made it a 6cyl. I had a car to trade and was in contact with Lotus of Oakville for a while. Then I asked about cars with Touring suspension since I didn't see any on their website; nope, didn't have any. I was told I could order one. Not a chance; more on that later.

I called Gentry (all of their advertised Emira's had Sport suspension) and was told they didn't have any. Then I was told "wait a minute, might have a one". A person that was going to buy the one with Touring suspension decided on one with Sport suspension, so the car was mine if I wanted it. Beautiful colour inside and out; Seneca blue, black alcantara with yellow stitching. The car was registered to the dealer, but with basically no mileage on it. So it was used as far as luxury tax goes, but new as far as warranty.

Why I didn't want to order a new car. There would be luxury tax on it, which is 20% of the price over $100k. No luxury tax on "used" cars. Then there is our usual tax of 13%, and they even charge that on the luxury tax! I added up the price of a 2025 with the options that mine had included, and with all the taxes and dealer fees, it was just over $190k. This is in Canadian $$. That is crazy!

Anyways, I was going to drive it home from the dealer, but winter had set in so I had it delivered. What a beautiful car!

Right now it is in the garage with its mate that is almost 60 years older. Both are waiting for spring.
