Maybe a bit premature, but has anybody hardwire installed a radar detector or have knowledge of such? Looking to see whether mirror taps, or fuse box taps have been successfully implemented and, if so, how.
Thanks so much for that.. I use a Uniden detector and there is, indeed, a usb cable that would work perfectly!Welcome to the forum @boostm3! Not sure if anyone has hardwired one yet, but there is a USB port up near the rearview mirror. We have a lengthy thread about dashcam wiring and mounting that might help. It's been years since I used a radar detector, so not sure if the modern ones can be powered by USB.
The Uniden R series won't power on via 5V USB, that's only used for firmware etc. Like Karl mentioned you'll need USB 5V to RJ11 12V step up if you want to do that, or hardwire to ACC in the fusebox. Thanks so much for that.. I use a Uniden detector and there is, indeed, a usb cable that would work perfectly!
Others have reported it not working very well, good luck!I'm going to give this 5-12v one a try.. They have a 1.6ft version that looks tidy. Ordered.
