Second Mod list:
- JUBU460 kit
- JUBU cooling kit
Installing feedback :
Before ordering I was in touch with JUBU team to discuss what is needed and expected for my application. Remember I like to track this car and participate in some track days and Time Attack completions here in my area.
We both came to agree that the hot weather we have here is a big challenge. Imagine pushing the car in a hot day with around 40 Celsius. I was really worried.
Thus, we decided to go with the JUBU460 instead of just JUBU440 as I have explained earlier for less boost and better heat management with the cooling kit (selected the ultimate race 69 thermostat).
After many struggles with UPS and customs to clear the JUBU shipment, I was lucky to have it delivered to my door.

This also includes the front splitter and the roll bar kit which I haven't install yet.
The
JUBU460 kit have few options when ordering, which includes the headers, extension cables and gaskets.
Additionally, I have added the Y-pipe, and I have gone with the De-CAT pipe instead of the HJS 200 sports cat and they were all have heat insulation.
Installing the parts was rather straight forward, nothing too complicated with the exhaust itself. The ECU was reached and changed as well easily. The cooling kit took some time to get done right. I would say for fairly competent technician this can be all done in one day.
Now since I have seen the previous post (
https://www.emiraforum.com/threads/jubu-group-buy-15-discount.4571/ ) and the small issues faced by some of the members here and there I was a bit worried that I might get some of it. So, I was extremely happy when we fired up the car and all was in order!
We drove test the car with few spirited drives, and it sounded much better with no issues at all. for the next few days, I had drove the car on different driving mods just to get more confident with it and since everything seemed normal, I have decided to go to the third time to the same track to really test this.
Feedback after installing:
The good stuff. I have specifically asked to have the same exhaust valves position as the OEM setup is, now I really loved how civilized the Emira is when in normal mode with the new setup. No drone, no drama just a tiny bit increases in sound level no one will notice except of the guy who have been driving one.
Put it on sport/track mode and things really wakes up. It is loud once you start pushing beyond 3K RPM in a good way. It just screams and crackle (which I also specified) when you release your foot off the throttle.
The cooling kit was doing also great. comparing to before and after, my engine coolant gauge was around 90C and now it sits at around 78-83C in normal driving. I was also happy when I reached home and open the rear latch how cooler it is now vs. before, much cooler. Previously, after any drive and when I get back home and turn off the car, I cannot touch the supercharger as it will give you 3rd degree burns lol, now after this, it is still hot, but you can touch it.
Less heat made me really happy that we are going in the right direction.
Now I know people like to see dyno graphs to compare things, but I like to test and feel the changes on track. Both ways arguably cannot determine exactly the gain/loss etc. but this is how I usually do it. I was excited to say the least, and I dropped an email to JUBU team that the car will be travelling to different city on different sea level for the track, and they have confirmed no additional learning is needed.
The bad stuff. Remember when I was happy how the short shifter improved the 1-2 shifts? well somehow now the jerkiness is back. For some reason shifting from 1st to 2nd now is horrible feeling as if you don't really know how to drive a manual car, but I can live with that.
Track Experience:

On the street, you can notice on low RPM's a bit of power increase, a bit. But on WOT you can immediately feel the kick. I was determined to get some numbers in the track to compare. It was a two-day event, and I had 20 minutes to go and test the car in the first day. I did a total of 3 laps, pushing around 85% testing here and there. I was shocked that I have clocked a lap of
1:30.9 practicing vs. my previous track day hot lap which had the
1:33.5 this was really promising. Mind you the weather in this last track is worse, so the potential here should be even more.
the power delivery is also something worth to mention. It was really smooth coming on full throttle until the around 7K RPM. Comparing with the stock setup and coming on a very fast right corner, accelerating in 3rd gear I felt a bit of a kick of boost after 4-5K RPM which was unsettling but now it is smoother on the same corner.
To put some numbers in, going through the straight line and before the first corner with the stock setup I was speeding at
212 Km before hitting the brakes, now with the JUBU460 on the same straight I have gone to
221 Km, which clearly shows the power increase there. Just remember I am not that professional circuit driver, so this is as per my best try on both setups.
Power Loss issue:
Unfortunately, it did not go all well.
On that same night, and on the second lap pushing I have experienced an instant power loss, it was more or less a cut in power for fraction of a second while accelerating in 4th gear, and then all came back together normal. I thought nothing to worry about as probably just a learning phase or so. In my 3rd lap and last lap, I had the same a small power loss again before corner 3 but I was about to hit the brakes and once I put it back in gear all was good. This also did not concern me much as I thought it must be the heat, so I took the rest of the lap easier, and I did get a message that (engine hot or something and switch to higher gear) so I just did cooling lap and went out. In the garage I rechecked everything and all seemed normal, so I was saying to myself it must heat, Engine coolant was at 90C when I saw the message. Maybe it is the engine oil temp is high or something.
The second day was unfortunately worse. We get two heat sessions; each session is a combination of (1 warmup lap + 1 hot lap + 1 cooling lap).
First session was in the day, so the outside temp was around 40C. In my hot lap going from corner 2 to corner 3, I get the same power loss, but this time it stays until I reached corner 3, after corner 3 all was good and I managed to complete my lap with
1:32, Theoretical lap time was showing
1:27ish
Now I was worried. I have emailed JUBU for their feedback but being on Friday it was fruitless. the second heat once I tried to push on the straight line the power is just gone, after corner 2 it came back but it was clearly something is off, so I have abandoned the lap and pit. I checked everything again and all was good, the fuel tank is half full and was more last night, so I don't think it was fuel starvation.
Moving Forward:
It wasn't the best feeling for sure. People who track their cars can relate, going through all logistics traveling and costs to be there and not being able to finish the day is truly awful. Glad me and the car are safe so I guess we need to be positive here, but this event probably will not happen again on this track until next year.
I emailed JUBU and since it is the weekend and the office is closed, we will try to schedule a remote session this Monday to see what went wrong and how can we fix it before the next event which is due in less than two weeks.
