Could the Emira be this generation’s 308? Photos courtesy of Bring A Trailer…

Now maybe we could get a TV show together with the Lotus and a good-looking P.I. - instant classic!

I've said exactly that with it being a transverse mid-engine successor to the V6 Dino and analog experience in a relatively compact, lightweight package. Those are more in common than the 488 (its main carryover being a V8) while both cars show a continuation of 308 styling cues .

I do see the similarities in design language - similar curvature of the front fenders, position of the side intake and clean, fluid, tight lines to form a purposeful yet sophisticated pieces of art.

I've been thinking that the Emira would have served as a perfect Dino successor if released by Ferrari.

They'd have to update the name too: Laser P.I. Thomas Laser, Private Investigator.

Do they even have detective shows anymore? Those used to be very popular in the 60's and 70's. The Avengers, The Saint (Roger Moore as Simon Templar), Mannix, Columbo, Magnum P.I., McCloud, Hunter, Kojak, to name a few.

Of course I don't watch TV anymore, so maybe they do.

I just want them to do an updated version of "Automan"...

Maybe they could use William shatner as the PI, he was good as TJ Hooker 😜

I was thinking just yesterday that the Dino is a more direct equivalent to the Emira, although I get the 308 reference too:

Both are compact, not supercar or flagship car sized.
Both mid-engined V6
Both feature flowing, curvaceous styling.
Both have heavily radiussed noses (when viewed in plan)
Both have limited colour ranges including:
Red
Blue
Silver
Yellow
Green
Dark Grey

Both are drop-dead gorgeous design classics.
Both can be specced with a black roof, although only the Dino's is removable (Darn it!)

One of the most beautiful designs ever. I want to kick myself for not buying one back when they were relatively cheap in the ‘90s ($25k).
me too, I was offered a Dino for £30,000 in 2000 by a girl (a proper petrol head) who worked the company I used to contract for. It’s now my favourite car but, not financially possible for me. The emira is like the modern take on the Dino IMO, can’t wait till it arrives.

Brilliant article @TomE.

I do think the Dino is gorgeous, but I‘ve never been a fan of chrome on cars, or round lights. I look at the 308 and there’s things I’d tweak (the roof line rear of the side window is a bit square)… but everything ahead of the A-pillar is perfect. That nose in profile… I can’t fault it. And the front view… so muscular while also being contained and understated.

I think I’m at a point now that I can’t look at the Emira objectively. As a future owner, my confirmation bias is taking over from my design sense. Is it too stubby? Is the nose too short? Are those taillights gimmicky? Maybe. I just know that owning it is going to be thrilling.

There's also design lineage that picked up where the 458 left off. After designing the 458, Donato Coco became Lotus Head of Design for the S3 Exige.

Lower front bumper grille and surface planes are similarly styled:

I just had to repeat this image that @digilotus posted on another thread. I thought I'd seen every angle of the car, but something about this particular shot makes me fairly certain this is a new classic...
