So let’s get the record straight, Emira’s ECU has not been unlocked for direct tuning. Tuners in China have tried to crack the lock for 2 years, and even sent the ECU to other part of the world and came back with no luck. However, Ryan @Boomgear in China came up with a different approach. He managed to clone (this part is unlocked for data transfer and conversion) the Emira ECU onto an older version of the MB M139 ECU, one that has no lock to begin with. So for anyone who wants to go this route, happy hunting on your local salvage yard.

Clone was installed and car starts up fine and street tested for three days, everything is fine and no CEL or warning of any kind, then bench flashed with a FlexBox FLX1.9.

Tuning was performed and dyno on a Mainline, for people who are not familiar with this dyno, it is considered one of the more accurate and harder to cheat dyno, but it also produces a very small number. Just compare the baseline number and the delta for result.

TLDR: 510HP, car RIPS, Tour mode now usable!

All dynos were performed on the same car on the same day (ambient 85 – 90F).
Pure Ron98 fuel, no octane booster or additive, no methanol.

Engine related modification
- Sprint High Flow Filter
- Mach5 200CAT Downpipe (No CEL)
- Boomgear Stainless Steel Exhaust (Fully Heat-Wrapped with Modified Valve Location)
- TurboSmart DV

Dyno Setup
- Bone Stock
- Bolt-on Mod
- Bolt-on Mod + JB4 Map 4
- Bolt-on Mod + Stage 1
- Bolt-on Mod + Stage 2
- Bolt-on Mod + Stage 1+

Normally 3 runs per setup and pick the median as result, but since we had to do so many dynos on the same day plus the uninstallation and installation of the full exhaust, we had to limit to 2 runs per setup and pick the lowest as result.

Bolt-on Mod + Stage 1+

Ryan tuned down the setting slightly for a smoother curve as Stage 1+ but I am not allowed to post the final result and any related media.

Here are some of the dyno comparison:

Based on my baseline 314 HP at wheel, (400/314) x 401 = ~510 HP, I am guessing there is around 500 HP at the crank (correct me if I am wrong) with massive torque as early as 3000 rpm. Now this is a very fun car to drive!

De-cat pipe will be installed next week and a set of upsize Vitour P1 racing tires will be next.

According to Ryan @Boomgear, the same thing can be done on the V6 but since there are only 20 V6 in China, it won't be profitable for him to start a project like this. He encourages tuners oversea using the same approach and any serious BMW tuners will be capable to do so.

Congratulations on this fantastic achievement! 👏👏 Truly a huge step forward for the Emira platform.

At our workshop we also work with Flex, so I’m really curious — would you be able to share the BOSCH Part Nr. (0261xxxxx) of the unlocked unit you used as the base?
We have a few units in stock and this could open the door for us to try the same approach.

Also, when cloning, did you transfer only the immobilizer data(EPROM) and keep the original MB A45S (420hp) calibrations?

Once again, congratulations and thanks for sharing this breakthrough! 🙌

thanks for the information and clarification that ECU write protocol has not yet been cracked.
So will Ryan be selling tunes on a clone? Promising if it will work with NA spec cars with potential different emission tables than Asia.
I am sending this information to my tuner here in the US to see if this can be replicated here with same logic.

I have asked and unfortunately he won't give out the part number for the ECU since he was only able to stock up 50 ECU but already sold 26 of them. He is worried if he gives out that information the price will be jacked up globally. He said you just have to try and error but at least now you know where to start.

The whole programming is cloned from oem to old ecu.

That's the problem. He can't just sell you an old ecu with new tune. He has to clone your original onto an old ecu,, which he doesn't think anyone oversea will take such a risk. That's why he allows me to write up this forum post to give oversea tuners a new direction.

I assume it is not possible to clone to a generic customisable ECU instead of an old ECU, something like what Motortronics do?

Ryan is not willing to do this for the v6? I could buy the older unlocked ecu in the evora and bring it along to him on my next visit? But then how is it gonna be (fine) tuned once its in my car.

Very cool to see this being done and thank you for sharing the details. Selfishly, I'm very disappointed to hear that they are not developing a similar process for the V6.

While the Chinese mkt may be limited, I'm confident there is a significant market for the US and Europe looking for a v6 ECU solution.

Current tuning option:
- Burbles
- Pops & Bangs
- GPF Deleted
- Power Startup
- Cooling Performance Activated
- Delayed Fuel Dump (Flame thrower from hot exhaust)

Stage 2 with intercooler and stage 3 with bigger turbo is already in the work, however Ryan just flew to race in Nurburgring tomorrow and he will continue this project in October.

Selectable map is still in the plan but won't be ready until the end of year.

We only have 1 V6 in our club and he is not willing to do any engine modification. The problem is people have to actually send the ECU oversea which will limited to a very small number of sales that Ryan will never recover from a project like this. However he encourages oversea tuners to go this route, but he also pointed out the V6 will never achieve this kind of potential unless you are willing to replace the internals which will start getting messy.

Most people will not have the heart to ship out ECU like that, so talk to your local tuners and give them a new direction.
