Did you really need to remove the mirror and unplug stuff and really get in there...or is did you find an easier way to replace them as you went through this process?

With other cars, all I had to do was pop the caps off (held on by retainer clips) and just pop in the new ones...

I don't like blindly pulling on plastic tabs with pry tools, I have broken to many clips, it is not intuitive what pressure to place where without being able to seeing the interior of mirror cap/housing, so I do recommend taking it apart. it is possible to pry off and direct replace, hope you do not break any tabs. This also assumes the mirror cap purchased does not need to be modified. I had to sand down the clear a lot to get good fitment just right and having the mirror apart helped me check fitment as we sanded down. Your judgement call. I just error on side of caution if I can.

Picked up a new wing mirror cap from B&C (£60 in gloss black). Removing the old one is simple, mask off all around under the cap, insert a trim tool in the end furthest away from the car (to the left above the indicator and lever horizontally towards you. Insert another one half way along and with slight pressure it will peel away. The nearest part to the window will then slide off. Trying to lift it up does not work its all horizontal movement. Total process took 2 minutes.
