My Specs:
Emira V6
Hi all, this is my first time on any online forum so forgive me if this isn't very good.
I will be collecting my new (pre owned) Emira V6 on 1Sept and am looking forward to finally becoming a Lotus owner after nearly 50 years of wanting to own one!
My obsession began in 1977,when,as a spotty 16 year old I went with some mates to see the new James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me.
Roger Moore (Sauve as ever) drove a white Lotus Esprit that he drove onto the beach to get away from all the baddies, which subsequently turned into a submersible when he drove it into the sea.
Sadly my new Emira doesn't have these capabilities but I would like to keep the acid rain, pigeon s-it,leaves and other detritus off it.
Could any of you guys (and Gals) recommend a good quality all weather cover for this car.
I've been looking on the usual online sites, and there are loads from £35 to £250?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks.

Welcome and congratulations. Be sure to post pics when you take possession.

I recommend you search the forum as this has been discussed a lot. I couldn’t stomach the local price for the official cover (I think Boardwalk asked for $1k+) so I got this: https://a.co/d/2IRxk0p

However it sounds you want an *outdoor* cover so that will not work for you.

If you are stored you car outdoors you may want to look into getting a car port rather than just a car cover. At least it is worth investigating the pros and cons of an exterior car cover vs a car pot.

Hey sorry for the partially off topic question, but I am in the Alps atm and the weather forecast says heavy rain or maybe thunderstorms for tonight/tomorrow. I have my car parked outside, no way to get a cover here. Is it safe to keep it under such heavy rain just this time? I am worried about the engine not being fully sealed as in “normal” cars.

Like any vehicle, the Emira is designed to withstand the elements (rain/wind/etc.) so there's no need to worry about it being subjected to "heavy rain". Any water entry into the engine area (there shouldn't be much), will usually drain w/o hurting anything and the car is designed for that. That said and as you would with any vehicle, worry about big hail storms or +++ winds causing nearby tree branches to fall and scrape the car. Parking in the shade and close to some protective shelter, may help. Finally and when it comes to car covers:

1. I always worry about an outdoor car cover which fits loosely and may rub the car paint edges, due to repetitive movement caused by wind, or at least that's a potential risk. Even if the inner fabric of the car cover is soft, if dust/grit blows in and attaches to that fabric, you'll have a possible abrasive . Some fussy owners will park their vehicles outside w/o any cover to protect from the elements or paint fading due to sunlight, for that reason. Others will PPF their vehicle or even do a total wrap, to get that protection. You decide what suits your "car concerns" and budget.

2. The manufacturer/OEM Emira covers are +++ expensive. These may look the best and have the official "Lotus" logo, but you're paying for that privilege. There are MANY after-market covers that achieve the same function, fit well and cost far less. A quick search on the Web will point to those.

Good luck with and enjoy your Emira!

Hey thanks for your feedback! I usually have my Emira in my garage, but here in the alps we’re having some extra days off in a place where nobody offers a garage of some sort for rent. The car is parked outside just for a couple of days, and I already feel guilty enough for that. It’s good to know that I shouldn’t worry too much about the heavy rain. No trees nearby too. That being said, and back to topic, I would suggest the OP to get a shelter of some kind for his/her Emira, if possible. An outdoor cover would not work for me. I got my “semi-official” cover for interior use from my dealer, as a gift. I would not pay 500+ euros/dollars for it. It Was a nice touch.
