My BMW 135I convertible was timed to 60 miles an hour at 4.9 seconds by car and driver. It has 300 hp and weighs 1600 kg. The lotus Emira has 100 more horsepower and 200 less kilograms so mid to low four second seems reasonable. Was it really hot when you were driving it?

Do you have any pictures or videos? Is it something you’ll try to do with the Emira?

It seems to be an issue because almost every reviewer brings up the red line as a point of demerit (Second only to the finicky gearbox). They all say it seems to run out of breath too soon and another 500 to 1000 RPMs would increase the drama on par with the Porsche which spins to 8k. I...

So does raising the redline directly lead to more emissions or do the changes that need to be done to the car to raise it to that redline raise the emissions? How high could this power unit rev to? Is it limited by the engine block itself, the supercharger, friction?

One of the consistent criticisms is that the engine cuts off quicker than competitor engines and you lose the drama of that last thousand RPMs. Can anyone enlighten me on why lotus couldn’t run it up higher with this power unit?

I have a BMW 135I convertible. Six speed manual transmission with 300 Rear drive horsepower. You can pick them up for a great price ($20-30k) The N 55 is a sweet engine. Could be a great stopgap car for you.

How was the gearing? Specifically can you scream it at reasonable non-track speeds or is the second gear too tall like the Porsche Cayman 4.0?

Enjoying my manual 2014 BMW 135I convertible. M line trim. Owned by an old couple who only put 20,000 miles on it in seven years before me. The N 55 engine is an underrated gem. Especially in a rear wheel drive lightish car.

Not sure if this helps but I placed my deposit in LA a month ago and was told I would be around 300. When I called Vegas and Denver I was told I would be around 60 at each place. All three places told me quarter four 2023. Either that’s a good thing they’re showing consistency or it’s just them...
