Lotus Emira V6 ECU Tune - Bench Flash

Guys, when you swap the ecu they will still know.. dont think swapping in and out will get your warranty warranted when you get engine related problems. They will see every rpm increase above 6800 and by default it is void. Our friend here had een problem with the engine/rpm related no need to go into details. Needed a brand new engine and it was not covered by warranty I can tell you that.
Once 3 years warranty is over id say unleash the beast, before that if you dont care about warranty.. but dont think doing all shit to the car and swapping the old ecu will cover your ass.. it wont!
Per your commentary, you could not raise redline.

Runtime will show gaps but absence of info isn’t proof of anything. Simply absence of info

Isnt vf tuner increasing to 7200/7400? It doesnt matter where the red color starts.. your car records the actual engine rpm not your dash rpm

He is offering to do so. I’m not talking about the red color or dash display.

I’m simply noting that it might be possible, for those extra worried, to leave redline as is

Im not worried nor caring about warranty hence shipping in my own ecu without a replacement swap. Im just giving info to the guys who think they can trick the warranty
There will be a lapse in the recorded dates if you remove the original ECU and replace it with a new ECU for a period of time. There's no way to explain that to the factory so it's better to plan on no engine warranty. For many, that won't matter but best to go in with that expectation.

Not to mention that surely if you order a new ECU from your dealer and then they have to program it your car (or whatever it is they need to do) then wouldn’t it be obvious to them - and Lotus - what you’re doing?

I mean, why else would you do that?

I suspect as soon as you go through that process there’ll be a red flag next to your name / car in the system.

I’m very interested in this too but only after warranty expires.

If the dealer released an update, it would over-write the tune, but wouldn't "relock" the ECU.

There is no evidence to suggest the car "records run time"
When you unplug the ECU, ***IF*** these cars have a black box that records key cycles it would show a "0" key cycles.

Same as if the battery died.

Pretty funny some folks on here put quite a few mods on their cars that would *absolutely* void your warranty, but a tune is scary haha.

FYI JB4 will void your warranty. Removing it *does not* remove black box data.
Suspension mods can void your warranty.
Not knowing how to drive a manual well can void your entire powertrain warranty.
Exhaust,
etc
etc.
how easily the mod is "reversible" doesn't exclude the fact it can void your warranty.

This is not a knock on the JB4, but if you've seen on the forums the power results you actually get are a roll of the dice. With a flash tune it is going to be consistent.

I’m not worried about warranty. But I would like to be able to bring the car in for software updates. Having a back up ECU to protect the tune may cause issues with modules being out of sync when you plug it back in (ECU on older version than the rest of the modules)

If a customer OBD2 flash is an option, then no biggie. We’d just reflash after the dealer is done with the updates.

Once they see an emira on dyno, not exploding, making more power than jb4 w higher redline, they will start buying.

The pulley and header mods, which are known winners, both require flash to best exploit and avoid header cel.

The only concern I have is the module update stuff, but I believe @VF Tuner will get obd flash working and it will eventually be a non issue.

Given how rare this ecu is, lotus’s persistent bankruptcy and factory closure rumors, and the rumors than the v6 will not continue, it seems prudent to have a spare g6 ecu, whether or not one is tuning a friend’s car before warranty expires, their own car after warranty expires, etc.

Perhaps lotus will do a group buy for ecu…
