The great black roof dilemma...

What extra labour? Lotus don’t use one piece welded body shells like Porsche that need masking off, separate painting stages and hand finishing.

The roof and side A pillars are separate painted panels that are screwed on after painting. No extra labour that I can see.
In that case I stand corrected! (y)

I am still on the fence with color, but decided if I go with nimbus, it's getting black pack.
One of the things that had me leaning the same way was the thought of creating a "poor mans T.50"

Nimbus
Black pack
Diamond cut wheels
Red & Black Interior

Of course the Emira is better looking and you could have 40 - YES 40!!!! i4s for the price of a T.50.

Yep, I can see that too and think it probably varies with viewing angle. Having gone with Dark Verdant myself the black pack was not going to work bit I do love the unified aircraft canopy look it gives to the roof and glazing.

I have been close a few times to switching to Nimbus - it keeps calling out to me! If I did I'd be really torn on BP or no BP.

Could always wrap the roof & mirrors after delivery.. likely cheaper and you can then see both options :)

I can wrap a colored roof to black with little $, but to color match the color if I bought the black roof, it won’t be possible.

this is a great point. and the wrap can be color PPF. you can also buy the black lotus letters for the rear

Nimbus and black pack was my choice and very happy with it

I can't decide between BP vs. body color roof. Help me.

100% this.

I ordered mine with the roof body-coloured, fully intending to wrap it with black PPF so it would be reversible if I didn't like it, plus I wanted black emblems/lettering but silver tailpipe finishers. Going "DIY" was cheaper than the factory black pack, and I got a) something that is reversible, b) a nice black roof that doesn't swirl and scratch when you just glance at it sideways, c) something that is a little unique compared to standard black pack.

In hindsight, I did end up loving the black roof look, but still love the optionality too (y)

I did this with my Alfa 4c. My Emira came with the black pack, but I agree, having the option to do either is kind of cool. One of our other forum members actually wrapped his Emira's roof with a CF wrap. So, going with the body colored roof gives you lots of options.

I think it depends on the color choice of the car and even some of the other options. I think the black roof looks best on the non-metallic shades (Vivid, Zinc, Hethel) Mist and Seneca. With the dark colors it doesn't provide that much contrast and I also don't think it pairs as strongly on the more formal looking metallic shades like Nimbus Magma and Atlantis (why not use as much of those colors as possible). I think you could probably make a case either way with Osmium. Lean in heavy with red calipers and alcantara or red interior and you can go BP or keep it paint colored with a tan interior.

All that said, I think you can also make the case for any color to be on the roof so yeah the safe bet would be no BP if you are undecided.

I was going to turn lotus letter and exhaust tips to black. Then I found black tips to be completely invisible at night and silver lotus letters looks black due to the tilt angle.

Oh and for those wrapping get it wrapped in black ppf, not vinyl. PPF wraps last a lot longer, especially since its a roof with the sun hitting it all the time. Vinyls only realistically last a few years and if you don't replace them soon enough they will shred like a sticker instead of peeling off nice.

anyone in Vegas area that needs/wants color ppf for their roof with warranty (if it doesn't last 5 years then free replacement) I can recommend a shop that wraps SEMA cars
